Sunday 4/25 on The History Channel (9/8c). "An Adventure that became a Nation." Check out this 4-minute segment on the Gipper. Astounding!
Direct link to the segment on Ronald Reagan, The Great Communicator.
It does look like it might be a good show.
OK all does anyone think that this will be worth our while to watch? I am on the fence regarding this.
I am always leery of anything the mass media produces about our nation’s history...one of my favorite DVD sets is “The American Heritage Series with David Barton” I like the Founding Fathers detailed information in it since it goes into depth about so many forgotten Founding Fathers.
Thanks for posting, I will tune in!
The fact that almost all the exclusive preview clips featured DWMs, Dead White Males, is a great sign.
I hope there is no liberal fluff.
Of course they have to cover the heroes of the civil rights movement, but I hope they don’t do it in a way that makes conservatives out to be the bad guy. Because most of the racist pigs were Southern Democrats.
The speaker in the FDR segment is Tom Brokaw. He states (to paraphrase) “In our house at least, FDR was a demi-God”.
Gee, how’d I know that already...?

I am afraid to even anticipate a production which will be honest and accurate. Well see.
No one wants to see a production so blindly apologetic that it whitewashes the abject brutality shown to native Americans... BUT that said, NO ONE wants to see the U.S. gratuitously bashed across the board for all and sundry no matter what this country or its citizens endured and achieved against some unbelievably staggering odds.
The U.S. and American citizens have done too much RIGHT that matters to be unfairly bashed for transitory and localized malfeasance or social ignorance.
NO other nation on the face of the earth, once committed to the abolition of slavery, threw itself wholly and irreversibly into the MOST destructive, lethal, internecine and suicidal death-struggle as we did for 6 years, in order to once and for all eradicate practice......NO ONE!!!
If the U.S. succeeded in nothing else before or since, our Civil War stands forever as THE shinning moment in American history AND in the history of humanity!!! The world literally held its breath and waited for the outcome. I am certain that no matter their particular politics, all people everywhere stood in abject awe of the courage and determination of those Americans. We did what none of them would have dreamed of doing for a population of slave/subject people. That fight WAS about slavery, no matter what anyone says.
BTW Actually, slavery is still practiced in places where America is insulted the most and the loudest!!! Go figure!
My freshman U.S. History professor called them the:
O$Waspems (Pronounced Ose-wasp-ems)
which stood for: Older Wealthy($) White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Educated Men
Except he said it like it was a bad thing.
.
I intend to miss it.
I will prob watch the first 15 mins and then I will make a judgement.
What a stark contrast to today’s America. “Great communicators” can either build us up or tear us down; unite us or divide us. I miss you, President Reagan!
