Is "Astro Boy" Marxist? (YES it is Warning to parents)

While it's no secret that Hollywood films tend to skew left in general, 'Astro Boy' may be the first animated blockbuster to discuss, if not necessarily endorse, explicit Marxist ideologies (albeit in cute robot form, of course.) In the movie, the aforementioned outcasts, led by Robotsky, form the Robot Revolutionary Front, stenciling their logo on city walls and chanting "Viva La Robotolution" at anyone within earshot.

Crude posters of Lenin and Trotsky adorn the threadbare walls of an office in a desolate part of town, and a group of outcast revolutionaries hatch a scheme to overthrow the ruling powers and bring equality and a classless society to mankind.

I wish I would have known this before renting Astro Boy from Netflix for my 8-year old. Once I noticed there was a huge issue with the movie content I watch the entire thing out of curiosity. This movie does not pretend to be anything else but Marxist propaganda, and I didn’t have to get to the part with the posters of Lenin to come to that conclusion. Oh, and those posters were in the headquarters of the “good robots”. Lots of propaganda too, showing how conservatives are evil war-mongers bent on the destruction of the planet for profit One scene had the evil conservative President standing in front of a banner that said “Change is NOT what we need”.

So let me warn all parents – Stay clear of this movie.

Vladimir Putin is writing some of our movies now...

Bet they get all riled up when “Red Dawn” comes out again.

I liked the film "Robots" that came out in 2005 where a young robot wanted to help his father get out of debt by being an inventor and working hard for a company in the big city he went to. Through scheming, some bad robots took over the company the young robot wanted to work for by kicking out its founder who worked hard from nothing to start the business. The bad robots stifled invention instead of promoting it but in the end, the good robots win out. I would suggest that movie instead.

Another one I lived was "The Incredibles." (2004) Basically it was about where most superheroes were driven underground and out of sight because of the fear of lawsuits from damages caused by fighting the supervillains and so forth. It is a good illustration on where people with great abilities were stifled by society.

Good call. I was pleased The Princess and the Frog as well. Had a nice little message about working hard and coming through.

Yeah, you know? I remember when “Astro Boy’’ was in black and white and he just fought ‘’bad guys’’. What’s next, ‘’Crusader Rabbit & Ragland T. Tiger’’ as enviro-nazis?

Yea, those were both good. There are great family films out there. UP was another superb film for all ages. But now I will research more carefully. Thankfully my son recognized crap and warns me about it.

A little bit of the script:

adorably wacky Marxist Robots! (complete with adorable little red raised fists printed on their bodies):

Viva la robot revolution!

What just happened?

Did you see the human’s face?

They were quaking in their capitalist boots.

Don’t worry, brother. You are safe.

You’ve been rescued by… The Robot Revolutionary Front.

I’m Sparx, the brightest.

- And I’m Robotsky, the muscle.

I’m Mike, the fridge. I’m the fridge.

You are now liberated.

Go ahead, comrade.

Take your first step as a free robot

Already got a hint of it from the trailers, albeit for different reasons (Astro Boy shoots rockets out of his butt? Really?!). And honestly, it outright promoting Marxism definitely is yet another reason why I would not support that film at all.

That being said, even the original manga engaged in some left-wing diatribe. For example, there was the infamous 1967 story arc where Astro Boy defended a North Vietnamese Village (ie, a village inhabited by hard-core communists) from American bombers and blew several out of the sky, which you can find here: https://apjjf.org/-Matthew-Penney/3116/article.html Really anti-Vietnam war stuff (and it soured my opinion of Astro Boy when he sided with the Communists over Americans. It alongside other stuff also makes me whether the Japanese are actually our allies, if they seem to prefer giving sympathy for guys who would kill them for holding to a religion at all over the guys actually trying to stop Communism.).
