Arizona has proposed a law, giving law enforcement the authority to stop anyone they suspect as "illegal".
Now you can look silly and try to deny it, but we all know this is nothing more than government sanctioned racial profiling. Its a green light for cops to stop anyone who who appears foreign or more specifically Hispanic.
We already have enough problems in this country with law enforcement conducting searches absent probable cause in the name of the almighty War on Some Drugs. Frisking and searching people because they might be armed, not that the cop saw something he/she can articulate as a possible weapon, but they might have, could have been armed. The USSC just smacked LE again, because they continue to think they can search anyone and everyone in a car simply because they were in the car when it was stopped for a tag light violation. The just ruled (again) that passenger are not required to give officers ID during a traffic stop. The third time such a ruling as been handed down.
It seems that cops are already very capable of violating our constitutional rights without the tacit permission of the state of Arizona.
So why in the hell are conservatives so eager to embrace the this constitutional violation while calling for the heads of anyone who even dare attempt to enact any type of gun restriction. Even if that restriction is in the name of public safety or the safety of law enforcement.
This is a dangerous and slippery slope in this country.
I agree that illegal immigration is a problem, so is crime committed by illegal immigrants.
But so is crime committed by our citizens too. In fact to a much larger and greater extent that all crimes committed by hispanics combined.
This will be found unconstitutional, mark my words.
It wreaks of some of the laws and decrees passed by the Nazis during the 1930's.
Whats next our very own Night and Fog Decree?
Come on folks wake up and stop missing the forrest for the trees. GIving the police what amounts to carte blanche to stop anyone and everyone because they look like they might be illegal is a nightmare waiting to happen.

I am tired of paying for illegal aliens. Cut off all the ENDLESS ENDLESS freebies and benefits.
How about we cut off all the freebies and entitlements to everyone?

And I am tiring of government officials who, in the name of political correctness, refuse to carry out their Constitutionally-mandated duties. This has been a long time in coming. With the current unemployment rate, granting amnesty to God-knows-how-many illegals is insane. Mass deportations during times like these are ihumane? FDR did it. Truman did it. Eisenhauer did it. And we must do it.
Isn't the police's job to make sure that, in a part of the country where there is massive illegal immigration, to use common sense to try to make it less appetizing for illegal actions to occur there? In the reality-based world, what kind of people are ruining it for the legally-admitted folks?
We can do what we know, based on fact, will make it less appealing for illegals to come in. Or we can throw up our hands and say "We can't be mean or let the police have the power to enforce the law."

The law only violates the 4th, 5th and 14th Amendments.
The reality is this is blatantly unconstitutional and the conservatives who support it are hypocrites for doing so. The accuse the RATS for cherry picking what amendments they like and don't like, yet support this, its hypocrisy at its finest.

Its the job of the police, local law enforcement to investigate local crimes and respond to complaints of local crimes. Not to become a de facto arm of the federal government. The illegal immigration problem is a failing of federal law enforcement. If the federal law enforcement apparatus cannot handle it, then what makes us think that turning local LE lose on the problem will fare any better?

Sheriff Arpaio seems to be doing a pretty good job. This just gives his team another tool in their arsenal.
The supermajority of the crimes that you just described are committed by our very own citizens. And according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report blacks commit a disproportionally high number of our crimes than any other race.
So whats next, a law giving the police the authority to stop blacks in high crime areas simply because the person is the same race as those shown to commit the most crimes?

So go fight with the Democrats for passing an unconstitutional 0bamcare law then. The Democrats can't claim 0bamcare is constitutional, while at the same time claiming that that Arizona's illegal alien laws are unconstitutional. You can't have it both ways.

Local law enforecement have been handing over arrested illegal aliens to ICE for DECADES. There is nothing new here.

Yes, why would the local law enforcement--who know the neighborhoods, who know the local sweatshops that employ illegal labor, who are on the street where crime takes place--why would one think they'd fare any better? Bring in the federal government!

As a percentage of their numbers, illegal aliens are punching far above their weight in committing crimes here. There was a list that has been posted here on FR about the most wanted criminals in California, and illegals aliens from Mexico dominate that list.

They are OUR blacks, OUR citizens. Every country has its share of criminals, but why the heck should we tolerate violent criminals from Mexico on top of our on criminals?

Overwhelmingly, most blacks are American citizens. We will take care of our own criminals, let Mexico take care of it's own vicious, violent criminals.

...and what is wrong with profiling, racial or otherwise, if by profiling you mean that the police will concentrate of the group most likely to be breaking a given law?
