DENVER - Officials at the Denver Zoo said a 4-year-old fossa, a carnivore resembling a small mountain lion, is now on display at the facility's feline house.
Zookeepers said Dorian the fossa, a species new to the zoo, previously lived at the San Diego Zoo and is now a resident of the Denver Zoo's Feline I Building, KDVR-TV, Denver, reported Monday.
Officials said fossas, native to Madagascar, resemble mountain lions but feature primate-like agility and are most closely related to the mongoose.
They said they are considering bringing in a female fossa to mate with Dorian.
Experts said the status of fossas in the wild is unknown due to the rarity of sightings. They are believed to be vulnerable with less than 25,000 living in the wild.
