Goodell: Roethlisberger violated conduct policy (key issue is a "pattern of behavior")

NEW YORK – NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has violated the league's personal-conduct policy.

Goodell said on the Dan Patrick radio show Monday there has been a "violation" and the key issue is a "pattern of behavior."

Last week, prosecutors in Georgia declined to charge Roethlisberger after a college student accused him of sexual assault in March. The NFL is expected to discipline Roethlisberger, although it says there is no timetable for such a decision.

I don't even want to contemplate what has flung itself at him, collegiate-chick-wise, in bars.

Bad Dog, Ben, Bad Bad Dog.

As long as Ben is a celebrity, he cannot live life like everyone else. If he wants to keep his nose clean, so to speak, he oughta stay out of bars and not allow himself to be alone with any female other than a relative.

Boinking the sluts that hang out waiting to be boinked by football players is against policy?

I don’t know that he’s a thug, but I do think he’s a bit immature for his age. He’s almost 30. It’s time he gets himself together.

It’s a matter of tarnishing the squeaky clean image (which as we all know is a crock). The Steelers have always tried to come off as do-gooders. They don’t like to have anyone sully that image.

The league has a personal conduct policy?

Who knew.

Don’t boink the ugly ones? Is that an NFL policy statement?

What happened to our bodies, ourselves.

Leave Big Ben alone. Let him chime!

Getting stupid drunk (and getting underage girls drunk with him) while running around a joint with 'little Ben' sticking out of of his pants and generally behaving like a pig is against policy.

IMHO (as a lifelong Steeler fan) I think the guy needs slapped down hard, and then traded for the best they can get for him. He'll fit in better with a team like the Cowboys or on Al Davis' Island of Misfit Jocks.

Exactly...so now the NFL is going to start suspending players who have never been arrested or charged with a crime. And its suddenly a violation of league policy to hang out in bars and chase women while in your twenties. Thank goodness I wasn’t in the NFL in my twenties...would have missed a lot of good times.

If he was getting underage girls drunk and running around in public with his John Thomas sticking out, why no charges?

Why, were you a sexual predator, too?

Thing is...the most recent incident cannot be proven as rape. The first incident is suspect because of the accuser. If she had been raped, she should have contacted the police. That she didn’t and is only filing a civil suit makes her appear to be a money-grubber rather than a victim. Her credibility is shot.

But still, Ben has to understand he cannot put himself in any position of impropriety. May not sound fair, but if Ben wants all the rewards of being a star quarterback, he’s going to have to make a few sacrifices. He has to grow up and stop acting like a horny frat boy.

Boinking sluts isn’t a problem, having FOUR different women accuse you of assaulting is another matter entirely. Just skim the investigation out of Georgia (it’s nearly 600 pages, so don’t read the whole thing), if 1/10 of that stuff is true Ben’s a big giant scum sucker. And that’s bad for the shield, and Goodell doesn’t like bad press, Pacman Jones got a whole season off and none of the stuff he was accused of was as sleazy or brought as much bad press as Ben’s problems.

If Ted Kennedy can drown a woman, and skate, I should think it's nothing for a NFL quarterback to evade prosecution for a little rape.

The local police conducting surrounding the initial investigation can only be characterized as obscenely unprofessional.
