He could have rented a car much cheaper. But it’s a good publicity stunt that they (must have) cooked up over cocktails.

I have to laugh at this and only, because I was watching FOX this morning and the People giving the news mentioned the Volcano, and then added there are people paying up to five thousand dollars for a cab ride back home since the planes are grounded..Why didn't they just say John Cleese paid that instead of trying to build it up to lots of people..

I bet the taxi driver was thrilled for that job!

I love rich people. I’m not wealthy, but appreciate how rich people can stimulate the economy in honest free enterprise ways.

I’M glad he didn’t ask Sarah Palin for advice, because he’s already trashed her like the good Euro-Lefty he is, and she
might’ve said “Just stay where you are. Everything will be all right. After all, it’s an ‘expanding universe’.”

Typical Cleese. Antics like this are what makes him who he is.

Had relatives that were stuck in Vegas after 9/11...they bought a new car, drove it back home and then sold it.

You can't make this stuff up.

It makes sense to me....
It wouldn't be very safe to let an idiot like this drive his own rental car anyway.

I once missed the last train home one night from London. It costs me 125 pounds, or $250 to get home and that was 25 years ago. Drunk and stupid is no way to miss a train.

Its simple folks, no car - no freedom.

Why do you think the regime is bent on getting us out of our cars and into public transportation.

If some entrepreneurs could get a cruse ship to the UK they could do a brisk business in trans Atlantic crossings.

"We checked every option but there were no boats and no train tickets available. That's when my fabulous assistant determined the easiest thing would be to take a taxi."

Must have been a 'water taxi' then.

Or am I missing something here?

Looks like life imitated art for Cleese.

BTW this is a great movie if you haven't seen it.

(in London outside headquarters)

Mata Bond: How do I get to Berlin?

Hadley: Dear silly me, taxi.

Taxi driver: Where to?

Hadley: Berlin

(they walk to taxi)

Taxi driver: East or West?

Mata Bond: West, of course.

Taxi driver: Oh, thats alright then.

from the motion picture Casino Royale (1967)

Somewhere around 15 years ago I saw a British documentary where a couple ordered a taxi from London and when the driver asked where they were going they replied "Bangladesh" and they proceeded to travel to India until they ran out of road about a month later racking up as I remember about a $100,000 fare.

Quite an interesting ride.
