When we talk about "risk" in the draft, what do we mean? If a team takes a flyer on a guy in the middle-to-late rounds - a spread-offense quarterback with little chance to make the pro transition, a receiver with demon speed and little else, a tackle on either side of the ball with great athleticism and iffy fundamentals, or a player at any position who's already been coached to his ceiling - well, the risk is negligible. Teams are playing dice with the universe after the first couple of rounds, and they know it. It's the picks early on that can come back and haunt a franchise for years if they're made without the proper scouting and background work...

He's a blue dog./s
Any player from LSU has to rank right up near the top in terms of risk.
Rick Mirer, Todd Marinovich, Andre Ware and Jamarcus Russell can give him a run for the money.
Bengals fan here as well (Being a Bengals fan is like being a Cubs fan...without the warmth and charm).
I agree Dez Bryant has a great shot at being a very good player in the NFL.
Tebow, however, at best will be a journeyman quarterback. I base it on watching him up close at the Sugar Bowl. Yep, he had a great game against the Bearcats...but the fact is it was against the Bearcats. His offense line with the Gators simply destroyed opposing defensive lines throughout his career. He won’t have that advantage at the pro level.
To me, he’s the Archie Griffen of quarterbacks.
The Washington Redskins have had more than their fair share of busts from the college draft (not to mention the free agency turkeys) in the distant past, and of late.
You might want to add Gary Beban to your list of busts, however, since Beban was Redskin quarterback Sonny Jurgensens understudy, it didn’t hurt us nearly as much.
I would dare say a lot of FReepers never heard of Gary Beban. That’s going back to the late 1960s; 67-68 to be exact.
There are quite a few old Redskin fans that wish they hadn’t heard of him either.
You may be too young to remember Jack Concannon. Traded for Mike Ditka by Halas. He had neither a strong arm or quickness of foot. If the play didn’t work to perfection, he was getting sacked. I believe the Bears set an all time record for 3 and outs during the 4 years that Concannon was their quarterback.
Count yourself lucky to have not had your youth sullied by this Bears quarterback.
Oh, I remember Jack Concannon. He actually was not quite horrible. Wasn't worth Mike Ditka, but he was better than Bobby Douglas.
Remember the game that that Gayle Sayers made the speech about the ailing Brian Piccolo? They were playing the Browns, came out like gangbusters and then lost the game anyway. I was at that game.
