They want the MIND ALTERING part of the drug.

Is that not true of coffee and alcohol as well? The fundamental political axiom I operate by is that I own myself!

Why is Peyote verboten for most people, but ok for Native Americans?

As a small gov't conservative, I apply the test of Occam's Razor to laws. If there is no reason for a law to be on the books, get rid of it!

Or would you prefer Mexican drug cartels taking over our National Parks, ringing them with machine gun-toting thugs and growing it, using the profits to foment more violence, here and in Mexico? Why not take a big bite out of their operations with legalization?

What moral zealotism drives so many to want to regulate everyone's state of mind?

13 states now have legal medical marijuana.

Make that 14. NJ Gov. Corzine signed the NJ Assembly's bill into law just before leaving office. :-)

It's only "medicine" because a bunch of rich hardcore leftists brainwashed enough people into voting that it's a medicine.

Hey, we'll take Soros' $ when we can get it, then throw him under the bus afterwards. Please remember that it was "a bunch of rich hardcore leftists" back in the Progressive Era that started the trend of making drugs illegal to begin with.

As long as your altered state of mind is within the confines of your residence and not in public, I for one could care less about what one puts into their body. Also the taxpayer should not be on the hook for any medical conditions/treatment resulting from said ‘self medication’. However if their altered condition causes harm to another then they should be put down like a rabid dog. With these conditions, I’m for leagalization.

Do you think CA has legitimate authority under the Tenth Amendment to tax and regulate marijuana? Or, do you think fedgov has legitimate authority under the Commerce Clause to shut down such a program?

Rasmussen says 63% favor medical marijuana (Oct 2009):

Sixty-three percent (63%) of Americans believe patients should be allowed to smoke marijuana if it is prescribed by a doctor.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 24% of adults say patients should not be allowed to smoke pot in cases like that. Thirteen percent (13%) are undecided.

They are prescribing it to children for anything.

How is that like liquor or cigarettes?

Ironically, it the Leftists who are burying the sellers in bureaucratic BS that will likely drive dispensaries out of town.

There is an absolute medical use for marijuana, for relieving nausea and improving appetite that has yet to be replicated as a manufactured pharmaceutical.

God made marijuana for a reason.

I don’t see what all the fuss is about.

If you don’t like smoking Marijuana, then don’t do it!

Disclaimer: I’ve never smoked the stuff. I tried it once during my teen years, and didn’t like it. However, I have no problem at all with others that do smoke it, because it’s none of my business what they do, and I don’t care.

“Also the taxpayer should not be on the hook for any medical conditions/treatment resulting from said ‘self medication’.”

I suppose that would also apply to people who overdose on their prescription meds?

If you ever smoked marijuana -- which I did several decades ago -- you'd really wonder what all the hoopla was about. It's about as "mind-altering" as a couple of glasses of wine, but without the lack of motor coordination. Although it can make you wicked hungry.

However, having said that, I would keep kids away from marijuana and all other "mind altering" substances, including alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco , until they are at least eighteen years old -- preferably 21. (Bribe them if you have to.) Studies show that if you can keep your kids from doing any of these substances until they are at lease 18, they are far less likely to become dependent on any mind-altering substance, ever. The reasons are physiological as well as psychological.

For whatever my word is worth around this joint?

I think you have the right of it.

You want to continue the war on drugs to save the children?

How is that like liquor or cigarettes?

I don't believe that marijuana should be available only for medical purposes. It is a recreational drug that the vast majority of people in the US have tried and have no negative effects from.

It will be totally legal for recreational use in California at the end of the year and in most other states in the next ten years.

The pill is called Marinol. Are you saying that its “medicine” if THC is in a pill form, but if you smoke it you are engaging in recreational use?

Pot makes people stupid. I know potheads. They are much dumber than they were 10 years ago.

I have never tried it or felt any inclination to try it.

Have you really asked everyone in America if they’ve tried it?

How is legalizing pot going to help with the nations obesity problem? On the one hand we are lectured to get in shape! Ban McDonalds! Put down the junk food! and smoke a joint? Isn’t legalizing marijuana counter productive?
