Stuck in Germany, no information.
4/17/10 from Lufthansa site:
LH 408 Dusseldorf - Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany to New York - Newark International, NJ, USA 12:10 A89 Cancelled
Thanks Bahbah, A. Morgan just said the flight is cancelled but I asked for a source. We can’t access any infor. internet is stalled for Lufthansa, Flt 408 to leave Dusseldorf 12:10 o,n, arriving Newark 2:40 on 4/17
We have no info.from Cnn International or BBC. We are left with the help of FReepers to help. We can’t even find out if the Dusseldorf airport is open yet, if planes are coming in.
Left in confusion and help from FReeRepublic.
Here's a good slideshow of the projected ash movement courtesy of spiegel.de. Use the buttons to advance the slideshow to see the forecasts.
Below is a live ticker spiegel.de has set up concerning announcements of the flight situation, airport closings, etc.

I'm sure you can find someone to help with the translation if you don't know German.
+++ Ash-cloud still affects European air trafic. +++ No airline operations at Duesseldorf Airport - probably until 8 a.m. on Saturday, 17 April +++

From the airport website
I understand your thought and we thought of switching but if the planes can’t get here they probably can’t get anywhere. We have discussed our options endlessly but feel if we hold on to our original reservations we are more likely to be serviced.
People are scrambling everywhere which way to Sunday to try to get back to the States. We are at a Trade Show in Dusseldorf, which is huge and many Europeans have driven or can take the train to home. We are keeping our rooms reserved for tomorrow night just in case,
The frustration is the information is unable to connect from here to the important sights like Lufthansa.
Nana, it will be okay, we just can’t access the internet very well from here because there are so many people trying to get out. There is no ash in the air or on the ground or cars, It is just where the airplanes travel about 35,000 feet.
The lack of information, in a hotel room in Germany,is lacking, That is why I asked for help.
Thank God for FReeRepublic. I am always logged in and can access FReeRepublic anywhere I am in the World.
My memory may be faulty but I don’t recall much air traffic disruption in North America in the aftermath of Mt St. Helens.
I agree.
Driving from Dusseldorf to Rome would be a bear.
Pretty close to a 24 hour drive to Rome or Madrid, I'd say. A rental car fee has to be North of 500 Euros alone, then the $7 a gallon gas and the tolls on top of that.
I would try the train to Rome if I had to. That's probably 200-300 Euros or more, too. And the trains are packed according to the news.
I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere.
The President of Iceland is managing his country’s crisis from a NYC airport on an Ipad.
I think you will be in Germany for a few days yet. I’m sorry you are stuck there!
Thanks for that we are stressed and I needed a diversion.
“Are you logged in?”
LOL!!!
You can try this site, Dussedorf airport but it doesn’t provide info about specific flights. It does, however, update the airport closure times. Good luck.

Iceland volcano ash has covered Europe in a thick blanket. 99% of flights are cancelled. The President of Iceland is running the country from a New York City airport on an Ipad. No lie.
That's the best idea.
You may just have to extend until Lufthansa gets you home. They're a good outfit and will take care of you.
You’re right, but it blew N x NE.
The last time it erupted, it spewed for TWO YEARS!!! Only to be outdone by it’s sister volcano causing worse damage and death to Iceland and Europe. This was circa 1820.
So that's what's gobbling up all the bandwidth in Israel? ;-)

Weiner snitzle is the most amazing dish EVER! Imagine my surprise to find out it’s not some hotdog/sausage type of dish!
A one-way out of Naples to ATL is +$3000 on the 18th. I looked it up. Alitalia & Delta.
