Fred Grandy (a.k.a Gopher from "The Love Boat) and Andy Parks are out. FishbowlDC sources have confirmed and DCRTV (www.dcrtv.com) is reporting that WMAL's (630 AM) duo has been fired. Grandy is a former Republican member of Congress.
It won't happen immediately -- their end date is still up in the air. The news has been circulating at the station all day long. Word has it that corporate-wide cuts of the most expensive employees are necessary to save money.
Station manager Paul Duckworth did not return a phone request for comment at FBDC press time.
Up to this point I’ve resisted buying a Zune, iPod, mp3 player, cell phone, et al. Still waiting for them to make an mp3 player with AM receiver which I here will be coming out sometime never.
Fred was the most liberal Republican we had in the congress during his tenure. He should go back to Hellywood and hang out with the other liberal Repubs. He only spouted conservative views to make a show. Every once in a while, he would get the moxy to say what his lib heart really felt.
I hate seeing them get rid of Andy, though. He has been here for two decades.
Joe the Scab is on late night for an hour , after the Great One. He took Curtis Slewa’s spot. At least Slewa never tried to hide his liberal thoughts by saying he was the only true conservative.
I’d like to see Penn of Penn & Teller get a radio show again. Though I did not agree spiritually with him, I enjoyed his no bs format.
Nehman did not know about the Country Bar scene in “The Blues Brothers”.
Where did he grow up, Kenya?

What is wrong with these kids today!!
RAWHIDE!
Sorry for the delay in getting back to all of you guys & gals with 630 WMAL’s contact information. I have been really busy these past 2 days. Below is a link with CONTACT INFO for WMAL:

I sent it the clip to him!
Do yo think he was the guy on the steps in Animal House playing the guitar and singing?
(yes I know he’s too young)
I'm calling BS on this. I think it is part of a plot to dismantle conservative talk-radio.
Farid Suleman, the CEO of Citadel Broadcasting, abruptly fired popular KSFO morning host Lee Rodgers, apparently because he was highly paid, but likely because of his anti-Muslim commentary.
Now Suleman is firing the talent at this station.
I detailed this strategy on this post in 2008, with embedded links to earlier posts on the matter.

But Suleman isn’t too highly paid, is he ?

Yes, you are correct. I'll probably do the same. But my main concern is Nehman -- Where will he go? What will he do?
Completely off topic, but who won the slogan contest for the deli? Biedermanns? I never saw you mention it again.
Great memory, Reg!
An employee at Biederman’s told me that a local guy won the contest back in October. I’ll have to go to Biederman’s Deli & Pub Facebook site and find out again what the winning slogan was. For the life of me, I cannot remember it. It must’ve been insignificant.
I alluded to the fact that the six slogans I submitted KICKED ASS, but the employee didn’t care. He gave me a free Bass Draft when I attended Homecoming with my sorority sisters in late October, however. That was nice.
I thought the title stated that Nehman would be spared?
I would think he’ll stick around; it’s all a matter of fiscal physics and my guess is that Nehman was paid at a much lower rate than Grande and Parks. I’d bet he’ll stay around, though I would simply prefer to hear him read the news and not wax his opinion. Regardless of his young mod opinions, I do like Bryan personally and I hope that he remains.
Today DCRTV reported that Parks and Nehman were still there (Grandy did not show up on Thurs. or Fri. as a so-called “protest absence”) and that an “end date” has not yet been given to either Nehman or Parks.
That just makes me wonder if Nehman is really coming back or not...
FACEBOOK FRIENDS:
A new group was created titled “BRING BACK GRANDY & ANDY TO 630 WMAL” on Facebook.
Please join!
Done!
on my way over there to spread the word.
Joined!
And will be e-mailing the station and Citadel today.
I hope if they don’t return to WMAL, that they find a home somewhere else on the dial. I don’t know where, but someone must want an award-winning morning show. Even if I could download the show from the interwebs!
This would be the last of WMAL on my dial though. I can only listen for the morning show and then my commute and I can’t stand Levin. Sad.
Hmmmm,...
Well, I guess they are soldiering on.
Fred could just retire and he would be fine.
I think this is simply a matter of ad revenues not keeping up with the salaries. SO, I would hope that it would not be taken personally?
