Fred Grandy (a.k.a Gopher from "The Love Boat) and Andy Parks are out. FishbowlDC sources have confirmed and DCRTV (www.dcrtv.com) is reporting that WMAL's (630 AM) duo has been fired. Grandy is a former Republican member of Congress.
It won't happen immediately -- their end date is still up in the air. The news has been circulating at the station all day long. Word has it that corporate-wide cuts of the most expensive employees are necessary to save money.
Station manager Paul Duckworth did not return a phone request for comment at FBDC press time.
Title Change:
Please change to “WMAL” and not “WMMAL”.

Boy, upper management’s just making all KINDS of friends. They’re expensive??? Gee, I wonder why? I dunno, maybe because they’re very good at what they do? Sigh...
Prediction: they’ll replace Grandy & Andy with Joe Scarboro (barf).

Well, that’ll be the end of WMAL-—finally. And I just heard Andy chuckling earlier in the week that in his current line of work, he could be out of a job anytime.
Oh well. The FM classic stations will be on my dial again.
The I95 Moving Parking Lot will not be the same without Grandy and Andy. I’d sure love to see WMAL’s rating book after this brillant move goes down.

What did Duckworth know and when did he know it.
They already tried Scarborough, and he tanked hard. They ended up bringing back Chris Plante, after firing him six months earlier.
Early morning WMAL is really going to suck since Andy & Grandy were always on top of the politics and fun to listen to.
Maybe the WMAL suits will confer with Rahm Emanuel to find an “acceptable” replacement.

Back to lisenting to CDs in the morning. I couldn’t stand that d@mn liberal they had on for a while. Nehman isn’t wet behind the ears yet and isn’t strong enough to hold me as a listener. Nehman must have an in with somebody because he’s just dry — no great wit, no great insight — nada. I’ll miss Grandy and Andy terribly.
