Returns tonight, open thread.
Great show...going to miss Phil Harrison, he didn’t take care of his health but he certainly worked his butt off and didn’t deserve to die that young.
Not a show for libs. It shows how business owners and employees work their butts off in a dangerous job because a market exists for the product. It shows the concepts of responsibility, loyalty, friendship are an everyday part of the world of work. No one’s asking for a handout and guys travel 1000s of miles just for the chance of working a season. Libs would watch this show and want govt to take over the boats, stay in port if the weather got rough, and divide the catch equally at the end of the season. No Libs won’t get this show and its stars.
That is true.. I saw the Hillstand Brothers at a Q&A event at a local college (had a HUGE crowd). The professor asked some global warming question... They had some choice words, and then invited Al Gore up for a season fishing.
May I take this moment as a public service announcement to remind our beloved readers -
stop smoking
see your doctor
get your high blood pressure, high cholesterol treated
be serious about your diabetes
exercise now and then
Phil was a great guy to watch thats for sure.
I feel bad for his crew and his family.
But a stroke when your 53 is not uncommon - and its really unfortunate.
50% of what ultimately gets us is some manifestation of artery disease, either a stroke or heart attack; and we can reduce risk factors and improve outcomes very effectively.
Arteriosclerosis - the deadliest disease.
I would have loved to have been there.
I watched a friend die last fall from lung cancer and watching another one die now.He was a chain smoker.
There once was a ship on the sea
And her name was Cornelia Marie
The rough lifestyle would kill
Her brave boss, Captain Phil
Now his sons will share his legacy
Take care of yourselves, Jake and Josh!
The only person I have run into randomly that I served in the Army with is a female from Alaska who worked with her father on one of those boats. She had fallen in with a bad crowd when she lived in Arkansas with her mom. Drinking, drugs, promiscuity. Her mom had her fill of her and sent her to Alaska with her dad. Her dad put her ass to work on the boat and she says it was the best thing that ever happened to her and she would have never set her life right if she had not worked there.
She was one of the toughest and hardest working soldiers I ever had in my squad.
Phil Harris was my favorite captain. I could really identify with his struggle to train up his boys, Josh and Jake, right while he obviously loved them so much. Just watching the commercials now, knowing that he is gone, hurts.
May the Lord bless his family as well as all the other boats and captains. May He keep them all safe and protected while working on the sea.
