If Tiger is indeed still a Buddhist, why is he cursing the name of Jesus Christ?"

Because he's a lost man who needs to turn from his paganism and get saved?

Shouldn't he have beeen cursing Buddha instead?

Bad karma. If you meditate about it for a while, you'll understand.

Atheists routinely invoke the names God and Jesus when they are outraged.

Who cares about Woods? I am glad the focus of golf is back upon a man with proper perspective in his life: his family comes first. Phil Mickelson. I would be happy to see him win a 4th Masters (like Woods) next year and forgetting all about “Tiger” the detestable egoist.

For the same reason another mixed race “black” Muslim claims to be a Christian.

For some, Jesus Christ! is just an expletive with no meaning behind it.

I think the question is kind of pointless. Tiger Woods is a full-of-sh!t media construct, so there’s no reason to believe anything this moron says. If he weren’t one of the top golfers in the world nobody would care what he had to say.

First, cursing the name Jesus is more likely cultural than anything, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Second, as a Buddhist, Tiger shouldn’t be giving into anger like that. Of course, he isn’t a real Buddhist, he just practices that Hollywood version which basically means he does what he wants. If he were a real Buddhist, he would eschew his material possessions, not give into anger or fleshly desires, spend his time seeking enlightenment, not hookers.

Cursing "Jesus Christ" is practically an American colloquialism.

None of the boogeymen from the sky are going to save your golf game, or anything else for that matter.

That folks think that the one brand of made up superstition they use as their spiritualism is any more "real" than the next is a common logical fallacy endemic to humans.

I thought Tiger was a Buddhist?

A lot of people who deny Christ like to use his name.

Woods has always had a smarmy mouth and even after his rehab he still curses in front of fans and children. His use of "Jesus Christ" as an expletive reveals he still has a long way to go before he's the man he insists he hopes to be.

My husband says in one way it's a victory for Christ that even idiot Buddhists use the name of Jesus as the universal curse word. The calendar is dated world-wide from His birth and His name is invoked as the preeminent sounding-board.

Whether Buddhists understand it or not, the world was made by Christ, for Christ and through Christ. He is in charge; not Woods. God willing, one day Woods will know that. Until then, he's just a snarky kid with an attitude, few friends and one marketable skill.

Counter-question: If a buddhist uses the name of Christ in vain, is it a curse to the utterer?

I wish people would stop attacking Tiger Woods.

His problem is his problem.

He was never elected to office and no tax dollars go to his career.

His problems are between him and his wife and no one else.

Pursuing issues like this make us look foolish and mean-spirited.

If he were a Senator or Congressman or governor, then I would be concerned, as in the case of Sanford of South Carolina, or Spitzer of New York.

The man has a problem. He is sick. Leave him alone to play golf, try to repair his marriage, and get rid of his addictions.

Why does anyone use “Jesus Christ” as an expletive? I don’t believe that one’s religious affiliation makes one bit of difference. I mean, is the author really suggesting that it’s better for christians to use their god’s name in vain than for someone else to use it that way? lol

Watch ANY Woody Allen movie.

Though raised Jewish, Woody Allen is an avowed atheist.

Yet he uses “Jesus Christ” as a curse, an expression of surprise, an expression of puzzlement, an expression of sexual frustration, an expression of hunger, an expression of despair, or whatever, in nearly every one of his movies.

It is a pseudo-intellectual conceit.

However, the name of no other deity worshiped by any other tribe or language group on earth carries as much linguistic and emotional power.

Oh Thor! Oh Osiris! Oh Ares! Oh Marx! YAWN.
