ET breaks news that actress Dixie Carter, best known for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on the hit sitcom "Designing Women," has died. She was 70 years old.
"This has been a terrible blow to our family," her husband Hal Holbrook tells ET. "We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy. Thank you."
In addition to Holbrook, her husband of nearly 26 years, the actress is survived by her two daughters Mary Dixie and Ginna.
You might be thinking of Barrbara Mandrell who is a good friend of Rush. Doris Day was a good friend of Rush's mom.
BTW, Doris Day is close to death, according to the tabs and she remodelled her house for her animals to live in after she passes.
RIP Dixie...
Dixie Carter has done a lot for the conservative movement. As much as anyone in Hollywood.
You come out of nowhere with some strange comments about you hoping she makes her peace. Screw you. Who are YOU to judge her?
That's true, just seemed a little unusual. Maybe we'll know more by tomorrow. Yes, she was a wonderful woman, and a great talent.
Pancreatic cancer??
It is unusual, especially with celebrity deaths, usually they say “After a long illness” or “After a short battle with cancer” or something like that..maybe the family is just a private family that doesn’t want to discuss it and mourn in private..A great talent indeed. They still show Designing Women on TV Land
Not sure..but when we told my Aunt that she had passed away, she said “Oh I saw her last year at the oncologist’s office, she looked pretty thin” so who knows
Yes, she and Hal Holbrook were very active locally too. Which is so ironic considering so much of Hal’s work was with TBS back in the 80’s and that was when Ted Turner was slap dab in the middle of TBS.
In that video she looks exactly like my first wife.
It was produced by Clinton friends, but isn’t Delta Burke a Republican, too? or did I dream it.
Sorry.... she was born in McLemoresville, TN. Not sure after that but she did attend Univ of TN then Rhodes College in Memphis.
I LOVED her. RIP to one of my favorite Southern Belles.
RIP Dixie Carter.
So happy that worked out well for your cousin! I used to accompany a friend who was not so fortunate to her oncologist without, to date, having been diagnosed with the dreaded disease. So that is a possibility, that she was merely accompanying someone. I guess we’ll find out in time. I DO feel badly about this, tho. I remember when I thought 30 was old, now 70 seems too young to die.
So, you have declared that any man who watched "Golden Girls" is/was Gay.
I am so happy you've diagnosed a significant portion of the American population thusly. I had no idea you were such a distinguished, learned and astute expert in the field of human sexuality.
May we humbly request that any questions concerning such matters in the future be addressed by a man of scholarly intellect such as yourself?
We eagerly await your response.
Dang. I always liked her. As a grateful transplant to this wonderful region of the country, Miss Carter is the Southern Woman ideal to which I aspire. Bless you, Dixie.
(After the death of my dear doggy, Maple, I’m hankering for a new pup. I will name her Dixie. In my world, that’s high praise.)
70 is definitely young. My aunt saw her at Cedar Sinai Hospital, a lot of celebrities go there. My Mom many years ago saw Bill Cosby there when she took my grandmother to see her cardiologist. I hear ya when it comes to age, 70 is way too young..heck when you make it to 80 you want to live to be 90. Time just flies so darn quick these days. I am the worst when it comes to figuring out how old someone is by looking at them, I thought she was younger
Agreed. She was smokin'.
I never knew she was sick. What a trajedy! Prayers go out to her family.
