My Father was a corporal in the Danish Army reserves. At 5:00am the German Ju-52 troop carrier planes started flying over. He put on his uniform and went walking to the Armory to pick up his rifle and join his unit. Half way there German paratroopers were already on the street corners. He talked to some of them and asked what he was supposed to do or, if he was a prisoner. They told him to just go home. A couple of years later he got active in the resistance movement, doing a sabotage. Later had to escape to Sweden after the Gestapo discovered his identity.

"A couple of years later he got active in the resistance movement, doing a sabotage. Later had to escape to Sweden after the Gestapo discovered his identity. " Thanks for the wonderful personal story. These really make the old histories come alive.

Wow. That is very interesting. Did he tell you any of the details of his sabotage work? I’d be interested in hearing about it.
