First, grasshopper, you must master capitalization and punctuation.

Then, when you begin to write as if you are above the age of ten, we shall discuss the elusive comma splices.

It is far beyond you in this stage of your education.

A comma splice is the attempt to join two independent clauses with a comma, but without a coordinator.

Example:

I was late for work, I couldn't find a parking place.

For the next lesson work on agreement... (What is a comma splice / What are comma splices). ;-)

(No, I could never actually be part of the grammar police, as I use too many run ons, ellipses and other violations of the English language.)

I don’t think English is her first language; give her a break.

I'm not sure how clear an example of a comma splice you need; however, here is a example of how to correct one.

Check your Strunk & White, comma splices are usually grammatically incorrect in English. It's joining two independent clauses without a conjunction, like and, a semicolon, or making them two sentences. An example would be:

I woke up too late this morning, I didn't have time to eat breakfast.

That is generally considered incorrect. It would be better to write:

I woke up late this morning. I didn't have time to eat breakfast

or:

I woke up late this morning, so I didn't have time to eat breakfast.

Strunk & White give some examples of when it is okay. Please buy a copy, and keep it near your desk.
