She is a very closed off young woman. She has some antipathy toward the audience, as if she thinks she is too good for Idol. This shows. She also is EXACTLY the same as when she was picked from the show. She has not grown. Contrast that with Lee DeWyze, who has changed for the better immeasurably since his early shy insecure days. because of that, Crystal has impressed me a little less every week.

You really nailed it. America loves and underdog and Crystal has been favored from the start. Last night it seemed like she was phoning it in. Unless she blows it out of the water next week, I'm thinking Lee is going to win.

I am sort of giggling with fiendish glee at the thought of her having to sing that uber-cheesy finale song.

Did I miss something? I swear there was no “homecoming” sequence for Lee. All we saw was him on the plane receiving Simon’s song choice. Was there something I missed?

I didn't see that at all (Lee/homecoming) I was a little distracted watching to the show (I was mostly listening)

I did think the little I saw of Crystal's homecoming was that NO ONE showed up to see her ..... I mean the crowd seemed slim to me from what I remember of other homecomings.

No, you didn’t miss anything. They showed it for the other 2, and it looked to me like it was maybe 200 people for both Crystal and Casey. I live VERY close to Lee’s hometown, and would have gone on Friday to his bash, but I was out of town. A friend of mine went and she said that someone reported that there were 40,000 people there??? I find that a little hard to believe, but that’s what the report said??? IF that’s anywhere close to being true, I guess I understand why they didn’t show it. The contrast would have been HUGE. Maybe they’ll show more of it tonight?

” He got quite a bit of help tonight, IMO. And for all the judges’ complaints about slow, boring songs, their pick for Casey was the epitome of slow and boring. Both guys have their strengths and weaknesses as singers, but it seems like the powers that be have thrown their support behind Lee/Crystal for the finals.”

Sure seemed that way..............

From Americanidolnet.com

Headline: Top 3 perform and Lee steals the show

I owe Simon Cowell an apology for doubting his song choice for Lee because man, I was so wrong. Simon may have just won the competition for him. The Top 3 performed tonight on American Idol and they all deserve some props for exceptional singing. They each sang two songs, the first a song of their own choosing and the second, a judges pick.

Casey James was up first and his song was “OK Alright With Me” and the vocals were really good but the song choice was bland. He needed to step it up tonight and I felt let down by that performance. The judges all agreed that it wasn’t a good song choice but the vocals were ok. Kara and Randy chose the worst song of the night with “Daughters” by John Mayer. They really did him an injustice here. He slowed the song down and I felt he had emotion with it and the vocals were perfect but it lacked what Simon calls the ‘wow’ factor. Randy said it fit him like a glove; Ellen thinks a lot of people will vote for him; Kara said it showed his more artistic side and Simon said it was a better choice than the first one but was lazy and he blames Kara and Randy for that. I think he got screwed with that stupid pick.

Crystal Bowersox chose “Come To My Window” and I wasn’t impressed with this either. I don’t like the harmonica around her neck because it takes away from her performance. Her vocals were ok but definitely didn’t blow me away. The judges all agree that they didn’t like the arrangement but Simon did say that he likes the fact that she doesn’t compromise who she is as an artist. Ellen picked “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney and she really came back strong with this one. She had powerful vocals just like Janis Joplin because that is the kind of artist she wants to be. Randy says someone else who’s in it to win it; Ellen was hoping she would do it like that; Kara liked that she showed part of her voice we hadn’t heard before and Simon thought she had soul.

Lee Dewyze really brought it tonight and we saw someone who gave it all he had to try and make it into the finals. His first song was “Simple Man” and I thought why is he singing Skynard but now I know lol. He hit it out of the park. The judges all praised him and Kara said round 1 goes to Lee while Simon said he crushed the other two. Simon chose “Hallelujah” and defended himself with his choice by saying we haven’t heard this the way Lee is going to sing it and he was so right. Lee had his ‘moment’ and it was amazing and for the first time this season I got chills. Randy said it was unbelievable; Ellen thought it was stunning; Kara said he was the heart of the show this season and owned the night; Simon was very proud of him and said he proved he was a fantastic singer.

” Despite Paula’s goofy behavior, there was a genuine sweetness about her. She never thought she was more important than anyone else on the show. The opposite of Kara. “

That was evident during her debate with Simon on the song choice for Lee.

Sounded like she was lecturing him on the “ proper” way to interpret the song, where Simon was looking for “ make it special”

I couldn’t agree more. To give credit where it is due Crystal has remained true to her style and who she is. Trouble is, I just don’t like it much. Her music, fashion, attitude just isn’t my kind of thing and whatever, it’s personal preference.

However, she does exhibit this attitude, subtle though it may be, that she will get up there, do her thing but she doesn’t care that much about winning. She knows she’ll have a deal either way. I don’t like this.

We all know the top 3 or 4 will get some kind of deal regardless. But the show is about winning. People want to see someone who WANTS to win, have it mean something to them. Wanting it bad enough shows to me that the person is humble and vulnerable, not conceited and entitled. I see that in Lee. Though he may be shy and reserved, I think Hallelujah was his moment. You could tell he felt it and he wanted it.

This performance could have been the nail in Crystal’s coffin.

I am already in mourning, for the end of this seasons AI...and NOT because of the show, but because of this thread! I think we desperately need to find something else to have a continual thread for, so we do not all go through withdrawl...What say you, Oh esteemed Thread master? :-)

She is not all that subtle. She is arrogant, all out of proportion to her talent, and she has NOT grown. She has NOT shared much of her soul with us, the audience. I hate to relate this to politics, but it's like Barack Obama. I am not sure he gives a hoot about anyone but himself. She seems uncomfortable within her skin and she is hiding her true self behind a dreadlocked, pierced mask.

We the audience want to love our American Idol finalists, feel that we know them, feel that we helped them get their start, feel that they really want it and are having the time of their lives getting to perform on this big state for us.

Look at Adam Lambert (forget the gay and the makeup for this moment). He could EASILY have felt he was "too good for AI" like Crystal seems to. He NEVER did. Though he too was pegged early on to win the whole thing, he contrasts in attitude with her. He was exceedingly polite with the judges. He followed their tips. He seemed to really enjoy the whole Idol scene, and unlike Crystal, he DID grow on the show, and he DID appear to be enjoying himself onstage. She doesn't. She just seems distant. That is unappealing!

Lee, last night, after singing Hallelujah, had tears in his eyes that he was trying to hide. He shyly thanked Simon for the experience. He said that when he looked out into the sea of faces, he saw people singing along, and he, himself, had a "moment." he was touched, and he truly enjoyed that experience. Wow. Who doesn't find that appealing?

I thought Bowersox probably went off stage last night, cried, and then went out to call her boyfriend to have a long and expletive-laden rant against American Idol. I am sure I am not alone for thinking that. It's the impression she gives off.

Good analysis of Bowersox. I feel the same way you do about her. A mediocre talent with a bad attitude.
