Apple Sells 300,000 iPads on First Day
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 5, 2010 | Kerry Grace Benn

Apple Inc. said Monday it sold more than 300,000 iPads in the U.S., including preorders, on the first day the device was available.

The company didn't give a precise figure, but the tally was below the estimates of some analysts.

Buyers flocked to stores starting Saturday after weeks of publicity about the tablet-style computer.

Apple hadn't offered iPad sales forecasts, but over the weekend, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster more than doubled his initial first-day sales estimate to between 600,000 and 700,000 units, including preorders, based on longer-than-expected lines at stores and high expectations for online preorders. He had also lifted his 2010 forecast to 5.5 million units from 2.8 million.

But berating people who buy high end products is irritating. And I am not saying you are doing that, BTW.

But the VAST majority of Apple-Haters, and they are all over FR, do berate us for being stupid and homosexual to boot. I buy Apple products and I am almost always thrilled with the product.

When I buy a sports car, or an appliance or a piece of furniture, I am looking at performance, design, innovation, features and design again. I buy high end products because they are almost always ... better. Apple does not disappoint.

I’ll buy my very cool functioning and looking iPhones, iPods and computers. And I’ll let the rest buy their Zunes and Dells. I’m okay with their choices, why do they have to put me down for mine?

Well..., don’t “grouse about it” just because you can’t get it and everyone else can... doncha know ... LOL ...
::::
Nice try — I guess I woke up the Apple-Bots. I could have all that I want, if I wanted one. But I have no idea why I would want one, when I have a netbook/tablet that has all the features I would want (excepting a CD drive) and cost $200 less. And my unit is smaller, runs varios OSs, has replaceable batteries.....the list goes on. Again, nice try.

13 Glaring iPad Shortcomings

Some people... ;-)

Yeah... they're the ones that keep the crap Chinese products made in slave-labor camps, going good ... doncha know...

BUT, get a good American company, who has been around since the 70s, and making a good bundle of money and a good ole-fasioned success story, with customer satisfaction the highest in their industry and a whole lot of satisfied customers -- and they grouse about it... LOL ...

Which similar device is price properly, pray tell?

Archos 7

EEEPC Tablet

eBookwise 1150

HP DreamScreen 100

Mirus Schoolmate

Lenovo IdeaPad

These things are all over either much cheaper than the iPad with an ARM processor (like the iPad) and custom apps (like the iPad), or just a little cheaper than the iPad, but with an Intel chip, full OS and the freedom and power that goes with it.

Hulu is working on an app for that. Netflix has an app for the iPad now, so does ABC. CBS is working on providing H.264 video format on their website.

Yeah Apple shut down their last US-based manufacturing facility about a decade ago. Everything is now made in China.

Hulu is rumored to be working on an app for the iPad. In reality, they have never made an announcement, and it would be a pain since the iPad doesn't support the video formats that hulu's content is encoded to.

Netflix already supports many devices where it makes more sense to stream, like set-top game consoles and internet connected TV's and Blu-Ray players.

Hulu would be stupid not to convert or offer the other codec. And they know it. Flash, at least for video, is not going to last. It’s buggy, bloated; I hate it.

And seriously,a software conversion program that runs in batch mode, is not all that difficult to do. And requiring that new submissions are to support it would be in order.

This device is going to alter the video presentation Format on the web. Of that I have no doubt.

They went medieval, but clearly the thing showed damage after being dropped 3 times on carpet.

Show me one real capitalist that thinks consumers shouldn’t bargain for a better price?

You are more the socialist than those wanting lower prices. Do a little research on FDR and the NRA (hint it’s not the national rifle association). When you learn a little bit you can come back and apologize for being ignorant.

My god... who wants crapware like that?

My family have three Dell laptops and two desktops. I manage my own household network and perform upgrades and repairs myself (I've not had to work on any of the computers in my home in many years) and I am extremely satisfied with all five PCs. My parents have an iMac that has been nothing but trouble since they bought it.

The masses of people bought, and still buy, the iPhone (for example) because it did what they wanted it to do and no one else could "get it together" to do it as Apple did. They still can't "get it all together" to do what Apple is doing and a lot of companies are playing "catch up".

It's the same way with the iPad and it's going to be the same type of thing with its success too.

There are those who get products that work and work well for them, and then there are those who cry about it and are the "nattering nabobs if negativity" -- grousing about not having it... LOL ...

The iPhone was and is very innovative, and I've said so in the thread. The iTouch (my family owns two) took the iPhone platform and apps, and removed the data plan expenses by making the internet availability via WiFi. Very smart move on Apple's part. The iPad takes the iPhone platform and makes it huge. I have absolutely no use for the device. I cannot honestly find any marketable need for it either. Based on that, I think the sales will be short lived with the people who worship Apple generating the sales. People with work to do (iPhone and iTouch apps are very useful in many work environments) won't be buying it. I don't want or need the iPad, and have no reason to grouse about the reality of Apple's products. I buy the ones I can use and that make financial sense, and don't buy the rest.

Sure, I wish Apple would sell a 64 GB iPad for $.01...well no ‘cause then it’d go out of business.

Man it's like I'm reading the DU in this thread. Where did anyone suggest they sell it for 1 cent?

Yours is a reasonable response. I think the issue is you have zealots on the apple side and haters on the anti-apple side.

How this war started I realy don’t know, but my guess it was when the zealots would jump in windows or linux threads and spout off about security. So they weren’t really looking to make friends and they were wanting to act smug and enjoy the smell of their own farts. So people don’t want to be like those idiots.

If the idiots would keep to themselves I don’t think this would be an issue. The simpsons did a parody of apple store a while back and it was pretty accurate from what I can tell. It doesn’t mean apple isn’t a good product, just that a lot of their users give other users a bad name.

So now each side goes and muddies each others products up. If you read what I wrote in this thread about iPad I think it’s reasonable—yet I get called a socialist because I dont’ think it’s worth it and that I hope a competitor comes along and does it better and cheaper (assuming it turns out to be something people like—I’m still on the fence on that).
