Apple Inc. said Monday it sold more than 300,000 iPads in the U.S., including preorders, on the first day the device was available.
The company didn't give a precise figure, but the tally was below the estimates of some analysts.
Buyers flocked to stores starting Saturday after weeks of publicity about the tablet-style computer.
Apple hadn't offered iPad sales forecasts, but over the weekend, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster more than doubled his initial first-day sales estimate to between 600,000 and 700,000 units, including preorders, based on longer-than-expected lines at stores and high expectations for online preorders. He had also lifted his 2010 forecast to 5.5 million units from 2.8 million.

I already have ....for 2 years, and the results are the same, Window 7 security is rock solid. To start off with the security holes in the Mac have nothing to do with anti-virus. It's a fundamental design flaw. Microsoft perfected that security technology over 3 years ago.
Now, if you've been running without any protection of any Anti-virus programs on your Windows machine for 2 years, that one thing alone deserves a write-up in a computer magazine, because I don't think that's ever been done before.
Please, do get that written up for us right away ... LOL ...
As for the Mac OS X, it never has needed the Anti-virus programs, as it's been that secure for users... so, no big deal there. I mean you already get articles written up about the Macintosh that way, so that kind of magazine article about Macintosh users never using an Anti-virus program and never having any problems from it -- would be like "old news" -- everyone would "yawn" and say, "What's new!?"... LOL ...
Compare Windows 7 to Snow Leopard and Windows 7 smokes Snow Leopard in any way you care to mention.
“Oh... Apple doesn't have to bundle anything else with it, in the way of any Anti-virus protection”
With or without anti-virus, Windows 7 is fundamentally more secure than Snow Leopard. It was designed that way. Again..
“Apple missed a golden opportunity to lock down Snow Leopard when it again failed to fully implement security technology that Microsoft perfected nearly three years ago in Windows Vista.
The security hole that Miller says Apple ignored, according to Computerworld, is address space layout randomization (ASLR) which “randomly assigns data to memory to make it tougher for attackers to determine the location of critical operating system functions, and thus make it harder for them to craft reliable exploits.”

Apple has been left behind I'm afraid.
Again, Windows 7 is fundamentally more secure than Snow Leopard, with or without Microsoft Security Essentials, which I consider part of Windows 7 anyway.:
"Apple missed a golden opportunity to lock down Snow Leopard when it again failed to fully implement security technology that Microsoft perfected nearly three years ago in Windows Vista.
The security hole that Miller says Apple ignored, according to Computerworld, is address space layout randomization (ASLR) which “randomly assigns data to memory to make it tougher for attackers to determine the location of critical operating system functions, and thus make it harder for them to craft reliable exploits.”

Well, heck! I've been trying to get you to run it without any Anti-virus software for a year... I don't seem to be having too much success with that one ... LOL ...
With Apple users, you couldn't get them to run Antivirus software even if you paid them to do it, because Mac OS X has been that secure that they've never had to have it all this time .... hoo-boy!
With or without anti-virus, Windows 7 is fundamentally more secure than Snow Leopard. It was designed that way. Again..
Well, if you could point me to the tests where they've run Windows without any Anti-virus protection at all -- I would definitely like to see that one ... LOL ...
Heck even some user that has done it for a year or so... that would be great.
As for Macintosh, you've got the anti-virus companies "lamenting" that they can't even get Macintosh people to use anti-virus software since the Mac OS X is that secure for these users.
They've even got articles out there trying to get Macintosh users to use anti-virus software and protection... ummmm... "no go" ... sorry boys!
I mean, those anti-virus companies have done their darndest to sell their stuff, but as long as nothing is happening (and it hasn't been for about a decade that I know about) -- that ain't gonna happen... :-)
Security holes are not equal to with anti-viruses. They are two separate things. I have already run Windows 7 for 2 years already, with no security problems whatever.
Snow Leopard is fundamentally flawed.
Again read and weep:
“Apple missed a golden opportunity to lock down Snow Leopard when it again failed to fully implement security technology that Microsoft perfected nearly three years ago in Windows Vista.
The security hole that Miller says Apple ignored, according to Computerworld, is address space layout randomization (ASLR) which “randomly assigns data to memory to make it tougher for attackers to determine the location of critical operating system functions, and thus make it harder for them to craft reliable exploits.”

“Apple missed security boat with Snow Leopard, says researcher”

Snow Leopard is inherently insecure. Windows 7 smokes Snow Leopard. Get used to it
Are you Charlie Miller? You sure do like his work.
Security holes are not equal to with anti-viruses. They are two separate things. I have already run Windows 7 for 2 years already, with no security problems whatever.
Well heck! No matter how hard I try, I can't ever get a Windows user to run without an anti-virus program -- but -- to tell you the truth, I don't blame them. I would be "scared to death" too -- If I had Windows system, too -- I wouldn't run without an anti-virus program either ... LOL ...
I guess the Mac OS X users will have to be the ones who keep running their systems without any anti-virus programs... and don't worry a bit about it... :-)
Those Mac OS X people just go "Ahhhh..." not even having to worry about a single virus ... :-)
I know it must be very strange to those Windows people. I wish I could get just one Windows user to quit using the Anti-virus program... oh well... :-)
All 5 users of Apple Macs?
After 30 years in business, Apple is still stuck at less than 4% market share worldwide. Why would anti virus vendors worry about a 4% market share OS, when they have the over 90% market share Windows?
If you want security holes, Apple products are simply full of them.:

All 5 users of Apple Macs?
LOL ... I see why you're called "SmokingJoe" -- you get smoke coming out of your ears when you get flustered ... :-)
Say, did you hear that the Apple Retail Stores are pulling in over 50% of their sales to former Windows users... they're hopping on over to Apple for their computers...
Yep, all "five" of them users ... LOL ...
That's the nice thing about Mac OS X being on the "upswing" while Windows has only one place to go and that's down ...
Oh well, there's still time for you to "jump ship" one of these days like a lot of other Windows users...
I love your name, especially when you "get to smoking" ... doncha know ... :-)
You mean like these in the don't need no steenking security Apple OSX?
Man! I knew you Windows users were jealous of those Macintosh users, but I didn't realize how deep the jealousy ran...
I know it must be frustrating for y'all to be so concerned about "security" and nothing happens with any of the Macintosh users... that must suck for Windows users, huh?
LOL ...
Reality, from Gartner:
http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1279215
Ooops! I don't see Apple in there. The lowest market share there is Toshiba, with 5.1% and 5.3% market share worldwide. Apple Macs are nowhere to be found. Even Dell, Acer and Lenovo, which were founded long after Apple, are still smoking Apple mi worldwide personal computer sales with plenty of room to spare.

Not only that but they will talk about how "greedy" and "selfish" you are because you don't hand it over to them.
Ooops! I don't see Apple in there.
The nice thing about Apple is it's going up and up... still getting the ole Windows defectors... who've had enough... doncha know ...
And yes... that was 50% of the Apple Retail Store sales, all from Windows people... amazing! I didn't think the defection rate from Windows was that high, but apparently it is...
It's been on a steady growth curve for the last decade and hasn't slowed down yet... :-) lots of good years ahead for us Apple Macintosh users... :-)
I am still laughing at you..over the huge security holes in the it just works, "don't need no steenking security" OSX:
Well, heck! When Apple Macintosh users have no fear of viruses -- and then -- I can't get one Windows user to go without his anti-virus protection ... ummmm... what can you say?
It's great!
BUT, really, I don't blame y'all for being so scared about those viruses and all that malware out there. If I had one of those crapware boxes, I would be scared half-to-death, too... LOL ...
Not only that but they will talk about how "greedy" and "selfish" you are because you don't hand it over to them.
You bet! LOL ...
I'll stick to moaning and groaning about how poor I am ... :-)
/sarc..yeah..Apple has been going “up and up” for over 30 years, yet companies that were founded LONG AFTER Apple, like Dell, Acer and Lenovo came from nowhere, and swiftly overtook Apple in worldwide sales and market share.
So much for your “up and up”. Apple went so "up and up" they ended "down and down" under Lenovo and Acrer. Chortle!
Where has all that “up and up” gotten Apple to in terms of worldwide market share? Firmly beneath the heels of Toshiba, which only accounts for just over 5% share.
/sarc Yeah..that's why Apple still sells fewer computers than Acer, Lenovo and even Toshiba, and that's why Apple can't even reach 5% of the world personal computer market after over 30 years of trying.
It's “amazing alright”. It's positively a bloody miracle!
“It's been on a steady growth curve for the last decade and hasn't slowed down yet... “
And Apple is still firmly underneath Toshiba's stiletto high heels. And Toshiba is only ranked 5th in the world.
Apple has been going up and up for over 30 years, yet companies that were founded LONG AFTER Apple, like Dell, Acer and Lenovo came from nowhere, and swiftly overtook Apple in worldwide sales and market share.
Well, you know, the nice thing about that is that the Apple Macintosh had been a machine that has had steady growth and continued evolution and improvement of the platform since over 25 years ago. That's amazing in the computer world -- first to have a company be a success for that long -- and -- have a product line continue to be going strong for that long.
It's totally amazing. And the nice thing about it, is that many Apple Macintosh users have been able to ride along for all that time, and it's still looking good with -- now -- a whole lot of Windows users "jumping ship" over to the Apple Macintosh.
And why not?!
Heck! The Apple Macintosh can run 100% of the software out there on the market between the Macintosh and the Windows software -- while the Windows people can only run their own.
If the geeks ever wanted a machine that can do it all... that's the Apple Macintosh -- they can run multiple operating systems at once -- at one time -- and even have a Windows program running in the operating space of Mac OS X ...
It's like not even knowing that you've got a couple of operating systems going on at the same time... LOL ...
It's no wonder that the Apple Retail Stores are selling over 50% of their sales to Windows users who are jumping ship from the crapware that comes from the Windows world.
