Low Flow Shower Head Blues, please help (vanity)
Posted on 04/04/2010 6:59:34 PM PDT by murphE
Sorry for the vanity, but I know there are people here that can help me.
Our pre National Energy Act shower head has finally died. It delivered water pressure like a fire hose. Now we have a new 2.5 GPM piece of junk and, sadly, showers are not the same. I was hoping someone knew of, or had a link to where I could get a real shower head, or specific instructions on how to disable the water saving device, which is and easiest brand to do this on, etc. Thanks in advance for all helpful answers, you will make my family very happy.

Drill a hole in the restricted neck.

Buy any kind you wish. Drill larger holes in the face. The water will come out fine. There may also be a constriction in the main leadin from the pipe. Drill it out.

I’ve drilled a few of these out over the years. Each time I do, I get a good, happy feeling.

I read somewhere that certain models allow for the restrictor to be removed. Otherwise, drill baby, drill.

A lot of the water saving devices are simply a little insert in the neck of the shower head called a flow restrictor. I removed them and it really improved the flow.

It’s that simple? I’ve looked on line and they’ve made it seem much more difficult, first locating the water restricting device, not being able to do it on all brands without breaking them...etc. I can just tell my husband drill it out? That’s it?

LOL! I love your pictures. At any given time at least one room in our house looks that way. My husband seems to be rebuilding it from the inside out...slowly.
