I just thought this was neat. I made one in about 10 minutes using a different design.
I made mine about the size of a skoal can and it will burn for about 40 min. Boils 2 cups of water in about 5 min.
I dont think the RTV is necessary if you get a good interference fit.
Thanks for posting that. I will make a few for my bug out bags and zombie kits.
No I dont know of steripens. I will look it up.
Indian Kashmir has soldiers outposted about every 100 meters.
It should be safe. How could I go to that neck of the woods and not ride the highest roadway on the planet?
I hope it was of use.
There is so much lost technology in the world today.
I thought we might be assisted in remembering the basics.
A classic. I had one of those 30 years ago and I think it was an old design then.
Yeah, i think that demo could’ve been done in 4 mins or less.
An improvement on the design would be some sort of wind screen. Maybe a large tin can cut down to size?
Yup a windscreen is a requisite when priming the thing.
But Large kind of defeats its purpose.
I have seen some that use an outer tin
Pretty cool! This reminded me of the olden days in the Marines when we used c-rat cans and out P-38s (”John Waynes”) to make our stoves. Of course, it was important to get ahold of one of the limited supply of heat tabs..
The P38 is a great lil tool.
Ya know what I like about you jarheads?
Yall can think in the fly.
Salute
Think on the fly. Sheesh
Honestly, Marines know how to improvise and adapt.
ping & bump
For the ping list?
I’m gonna have to try making one of those. Would it help any if the holes were a little more precision? Using a small drill bit or dremel tool to make them? What is the purpose of putting the coin on top when you light it?
FWIW, REI sells a similar design made of welded titanium for $30. Ain’t a penny, but more durable/reliable if needed.
The penny stops the fill hole from flaring up. Its just a stopper.
I did an experiment tonight and added 8 jets to to my 8 for 16.
I think 8 worked better to keep the pressure up.
You will have to experiment with the jet size too.
There is no need for titanium. This thing will last forever.
They sell pop can ones for $15 premade on the internet.
