A Letter to My Son
self

Posted on 04/02/2010 9:48:36 PM PDT by fantail 1952

My dear son;

I would like to apologise to you and your children, and their children as well for what you are inheriting in the near future.

The generations before me fought and sometimes died for the freedoms that we have had in this great land, known as the United States of America. Due to my generation's inattention, the God given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as delineated in the Declaration of Independance and guaranteed by our foundingfathers when they wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights have shrunk dramatically.

I, too, like you, took the oath to protect and defend the Constitution, I more than 50 years ago, but didn't really understand the gravity and the responsibility that taking that oath entailed. In subsequent years, I witnessed the slow and steady erosion of those same God given rights, and other than occasionally grumbles, took no action to reverse the trend toward an all-powerful government that has now shown its true nature for all to see.

The erosion of our individual liberties is no longer gradual. Instead, it has become a fast moving juggernaut, and threatens all of us with forced subservience to a federal government gone mad with power.

Likely, the next few years will be turbulent, perhaps with a violence that has seldom been seen on this earth, and I pray that you and yours will not be directly affected by it....but my greatest fear is that we all will.

I am now in the twilight of my years, and expect to meet my maker and be with my loving wife within a decade or two, but in the meantime, will pray for your freedom and safety of the next generation that you have provided me,

Love, Dad

Well, fantail, yours was truly The Worst Generation, but that doesn't mean all members of the generation are guilty. Glancing at your profile, it looks like you were one of the good ones.

We're going to have to fight just as hard as the generation that preceded you, but I believe we're up to it.

Every generation has to rise to the occaision. If one fails, well Reagan said it, “...the first step into a thousand years fo darkness...”

The greatest nation in history is in grave danger. It’s extremely sad and disgusting that it’s come to this point.

It was an especially Black Friday for me yesterday and to no small extent because of this very fact. It was firghteneing to read the other day that the gummint had bailed out AIG and one of the other banks to the tune of tens of billions IN SECRET prior to the “legal” bailout. Dear God, what have we come to?

I verbally apologized to my children several months ago & have been thinking of writing an open Letter to the Editor to our local rag. So I understand exactly how you feel, fantail 1952. I always thought I was so observant & that hippies & radicals were the fringes.Little did I know.......

We will do our best to do what we must to see this thing through. Have faith.

"To those of us in the baby boom generation, this is what we should all be telling our children....who knows, maybe they will soon understand."

When the Baby Boom generation experiences the reality that the policies they championed will by necessity result in their being told that they are too expensive to care for after their productive years have passed the true wisdom of their pseudo-enlightenment will dawn on them.
