VANITY: Sarah Palin's vocal chords/voice callibration
Self | 3/30/10

Posted on 03/30/2010 9:58:08 AM PDT by SilvieWaldorfMD

Okay, I know I'm going to get reprimanded out here by many of you, but does anyone else notice that Sarah Palin's voice is just way too pitchy and high? I enjoy her speeches and such, but sometimes she screeches so high that it drowns out her message, and, in my opinion, she should tone down her voice/vocal levels just a bit.

When she does sit-down interviews, she's much better, although the high-pitch comes and goes there too. I was prepping dinner last night with FNC on, and they showed her at the McCain event. Her voice was so loud and unleveled that I almost cut my pinky finger with my Ginsu knife while cutting a tomato... I got a chill going up my shoulders. It's strange...

Can a voice coach help her through this?

“She isn’t a singer. She is someone from a part of the country where that is the way they speak. Get a grip and find something useful to worry about.”

Agreed to a point. I think the tone of her voice is one small part of why she resonants (sorry!) with Middle America. She’s one of us. OTOH, a voice coach may help a bit to take out some of the high-pitched edge off while not really changing the overall voice or style.

It’s too bad, but crap like this DOES matter at election time where “image” is such a big deal to so many voters rather than the substance. (Current president being a case in point).

This is one where if the voice coach does too much she will not sound like herself and if they do too little it won’t sound any different at all. I figure this is one of those whwere kind of like Reagan who was accused of talking too slow and too western and too hick....It all worked in the end.

Plus I am not convinced that she is even consiering running

Yes. She can be hard to take—one has to concentrate on what she is saying.

You’re right, she needs to find Hillary’s coach. I usually avoid Hillary like the plague, but I happened to hear her on the radio yesterday and was amazed at how much her speech had improved. Whoever coached her, if he could help HILLARY, he must be great and could surely help Sarah.

maybe a link to this thread on her facebook page?

I'm not a member of Facebook, and besides, as I said, I'm almost positive she's heard this criticism about her many times before. Guess she'll do something about it if and when she feels it's important to her future public image.

I'm not even getting into the subject about her hair. :-)

she admittedly sounds shrill.....women have it tough, but she can improve, I am sure of it. after all, WHAT she is saying is so perfect.

Well said. I agree.

Yes. Many women sound that way when speaking in a loud environment.

She needs to get a vocal coach ASAP. Also it will help preserve her voice for the longterm.

Palin needs to develop a “radio voice.” Even Laura Ingraham could use some coaching so she stop swallowing the ends of her sentences.

To: I still care

She definitely needs a speech and voice coach. With a good teacher, she would be able to lower her voice a bit. There are exercises that would help.

I agree that she should not shout so much and should speak more slowly. As far as speaking goes, she is an Eliza Doolittle. Maybe practicing with marbles in her mouth would help!
