Oklahoma Senate approves health care opt out.
Published: March 23, 2010
The Oklahoma Senate has approved a measure that would allow Oklahoma voters to opt out of key provisions of the federal health care bill signed into law by President Obama.
The joint resolution approved Tuesday by a 36-11 vote would send to a vote of the people in November a state question to prohibit any requirement that a person, employer or hospital participate in a health care system.
A similar resolution is expected to be approved in the House later this week. Both measures are destined for a conference committee, where only one version is expected to emerge for a final legislative vote.
Senate Democrats attempted to amend the bill to place the issue on the July 27 primary ballot, but Republicans derailed that effort.
This type of measure should be on the ballot in as many State ballots as possible.
Cool. This, with a sufficient majority to override our Governor’s veto, is probably the best we can do until we get a new AG.
Oklahomans have their stuff in order. They elect great people, boot illegals out and they don’t want anything to do with the Federal government.
just like texas no one goes without care in ok...we dont need it.
we never needed any fed level socialized med...most states have programs for the needy...even the un needy...its all about stealing your money and killing the constitution.
One of my biggest concerns that I am not seeing addressed is the requirements of insurance companies to accept those with pre-existing conditions.
This is going to cause my rates to skyrocket, yet I don’t see that this is part of any lawsuit, unless I am missing something.
Let Article V of the Constitution speak out loudly.
States were given and still retain the ultimte trump card.
My husband and I have been contemplating leaving Montana over the last few years. It is getting more liberal all the time. As you can imagine, with Max Baucus as one of our senators and a democrat governor and our other senator being a democrat, we feel a little out of place. I guess I am going to have to do some research on surrounding states to relocate eventually. Idaho is good but jobs are few and far between, wonder what Wyoming is like? Guess I will be doing some reading up on things and watching how states react to obamacare.
Unfortunately, our current AG is liable to be our new governor!....red
Amen!
What I don't understand is why we can't vote on it in our special election in May...November is a long ways away.
What a fine State.
Since the feds have made it literally impossible for me to expand my 1 man business by hiring even one employee, I’m looking for at least one partner. Maybe two.
I love Oklahoma... it’s on the right track... but they better stay on it, or i’m gone in a heartbeat.
If thinking about moving to OK, and you have experience in the water damage or mold remediation industry, pm me.
I could go bonkers here with a partner.
i like it so far.
They can only opt out of the benefits, but not the increased federal and Medicare taxes. Not till this stinker is repealed or gutted.
The argument for states rights didn’t work so well during the Civil War and it won’t save us now.
Neither the States nor the People have any obligation to obey any part of the Constitutional Obamanation that is ObamaCare.
