A woman is in serious condition after being attacked by her own dog at Portland in western Victoria.
Ambulance officers say both of the woman's arms are badly injured and they described one of them as being "partially amputated".
She also has horrific facial injuries.
Police believe a family member alerted neighbours to the attack at the woman's flat in Pile Street.
When the neighbours arrived, they could see the woman being mauled by the pit bull Staffordshire cross.
They entered the house by smashing a glass panel in the front door.

If Chet wasn't agenda driven he would also post the occasional positive pit bull article...there have been such things, but they don't get attention. It would be like posting articles about all the Toyota cars and trucks that didn't inexpicably accelerate this week. It's hard to push your meme when you acknowledge evidence to the contrary.
I’m laughing AT YOU
Nearly everyone who posts articles on FR is AGENDA driven. What’s your point?
If you have articles that are positive regarding Pit Bulls, post them. If not, stop bitching.
“Woman’s arm almost severed in dog attack (Pit Bull Alert)”
See, this is why Pugs are better.
Nearly everyone who posts on FR bitches. Especially those of us that see leftist agendas (breed specific legislation) being pushed by so-called conservatives and libertarians.
Just so that you know that if your pit bull makes any movement that I deem to be of an aggressive nature anywhere near me, it’s dead.
I don’t have a pitbull, lol, but once you and your pantywaist buddies at PETA succeed in banning pitbulls, I’m sure you’ll be coming for me and my shepherd ‘cause they scare liberal bedwetters, too. All I can say, is don’t make any movements he or I deem aggressive. :-)
So, you are going to lower yourself to making threats against a person? Just keep in mind that I have the right to defend myself against not only aggressive dogs, but their owners too. Be careful of what you wish for - the other guy just might be packing.
FYI, I have no fear of any dog, Pit Bull’s included. This is because I have the means with me to stop an attack dead in it’s tracks. Given that Shepards have a much lower likelihood of attacking, I’m not concerned about Shepards at all. I’m also not concerned about those who make threats.
Also, FYI, I’m a member of PETA - People for the Eating of Tasty Animals.
Big man. ROFL!
Try me.
ROFL!!!! Now you threaten a woman? First the dog, then the man, now the woman? For growling at you?
No need to ridicule YOU, I see. You’ve taken care of that all by yourself.
PETA and any other number of animal rights groups heartily endorse breed specific bans, but they do so in order to set a precedent to reach their stated goal of banning animal ownership altogether. Pits are easy targets because there are incidents that almost always arise from irresponsible, inexperienced owners, and like with all other leftist agendas, once you whip up passions and emotions, no amount of logic or fact is going to turn that around. They know that. If you think a ban on pitbulls would solve dog maulings, or that they would be the last breed banned, you're truly a dim bulb. The irresponsible owners would gravitate to chows, akitas, mastiffs, etc., breed them for aggression, and we'd have the same problem we do have with pits now (and I acknowledge there's a problem, but that it's almost always the result of the breeder and/or owner).
If you want to solve this, focus on the people who are responsible and hammer them. And don't buy into the inflammatory press, which frequently misidentifies the breeds...
My, my. LOL!
Yep. Breed specific bans are the wolf in sheep’s clothing.
PS, I don’t think my mastiff would like him much. My mastiff might deem HIM aggressive, LOL!
There’s a pic of me, my neice, my Tervuren and my brother’s Mastiff about 3/4 the way down my FR home page.....;-)
I have listened to the Pit Bull people here for years defend these animals. And I really tend to be on their side. It is usually the owner that is the problem.
But still...
I was walking my dog at Greenlake on Saturday and passed dozens of dogs. They and my dog all had varying degrees of interaction - all friendly. Then I came across a guy with a Pit Bull and didn’t give it a thought. My dog got within about a foot of it (it is a Maltipoo) and nearly got tore apart.
I’m done.
Beautiful dogs, and pictures. I read the book from the monks of New Skete Monastery, they sure know their dogs. Are they still in the raising and training business?
Yep...the Monks are still active.
The breed demonizes itself without my help...You seem to love reading his posts cause your always on them it seem...imho
As far a calling you a liberal, I did not. but if the shoe fits wear it..
