Wow - like we did not know Princeton. Much of uni research is a HUGE waste of taxpayer money. I know two people who did work for two famous uni’s and it is a joke in most cases.

The government wants to control the food supply.

I'm interested in what you see that I don't.

The other day I went into a Subways shop. I bought a foot long for my two sons.

Next to us was a woman with five daughters. All of them bought a sandwich and sugared drinks. ALL of them were fat. I don't mean chubby - I mean fat.

A friend of hers came in with her three children and the were ALL fat. Eight little pink balloons with faces painted on them. No definition. The mothers were fat.

How do you explain this? There are fat kids ALL over the place. HFC may not be the only cause but it certainly carries its share of the blame along with all the other sugars in food today.

In the 40 years since the introduction of high-fructose corn syrup as a cost-effective sweetener in the American diet, rates of obesity in the U.S. have skyrocketed

It should also be pointed out that a major reason corn syrup is cost effective is that US sugar growers lobbied for protective tariffs on imported sugar, to the extent we pay close to double the world rate for sugar.

This allows the sugar companies to continue destroying the Everglades without having to face foreign competition.

And for more important news... Trajan88 (an American of Italian heritage) loves a big bowl of pasta topped with a nice marinara (made from San Marzano tomatoes stewed with olive oil, a little sea salt [that's not from France], oregano, freshley crushed garlic, Parma cheese [the really good aged stuff], black pepper, and some red pepper flakes)... adding a few beef/veal/pork-based meatballs & hot Italian sausages browned in olive oil ... I cannot figure out why I gain weight if I stop running my 15 mi. per week.

Princeton, do a study to figure out where I'm going wrong :-)

My parents, neither of whom is obese, but do struggle with their weight; have rolled their eyes at me for years as I have told them how corn syrup is so much worse for you than sugar. My Mom's cardiologist dismisses it as a myth, yet study after study shows that your body processes it differently.

All I know is that I was a skinny kid, yet in high school and college (even while in competitive athletics throughout) I struggled with my weight. To try to lose weight, I ate a strictly low fat diet. Of course, to make up for the bad taste food manufacturers add lots of corn syrup. I worked out like crazy, ate “healthy” foods and kept on gaining weight. When I say worked out like crazy, I mean it-I was on the track team and there were practices in which I saw the track moving up to hit me in the face. Running ‘til you black out is a weird experience!

After college, I decided that if God gave us fat in our milk, then consuming it moderately might be OK. I later cut out artificial fats and all corn syrup...basically anything that comes out of a package. At 36 I am 4 months pregnant with our 5th child and I still weigh 20 pounds less than I did my junior year of college. We use cream on our oatmeal, butter on our homemade bread, and love red meat. For breakfast a few weeks ago I made homemade ice cream: Cream, egg yolks, a little bit of real maple syrup, vanilla and arrowroot powder. The kids loved it and we were on time for church :)!

Maybe they should study people who “sit around on the couch all day” and collect gubmint checks. I’ll bet they find that that also causes weight gain. Not to mention anger and frustration among those of us who actually WORK for what we have.

I admit that I occasionally like a soda. But I noticed years ago that drinking HFCS soda gave me a run down feeling and so I largely stopped drinking it. It wasn’t until a year or so ago when I had to work in Europe for a bit that I noticed that cokes tasted like I remembered them tasting when I was a kid. Now that Pepsi is running it’s “legacy” cola and mountain dew, I’ve noticed the same thing although I’m not that fond of pepsi any more.

The only difference between American coca cola and European coca cola is that the EU bans HFCS and the sodas are made with sugar. Now I have about one a week, but it is the sugar variety coca cola bottled for the mexican market that you can find at kroger and a few other stores.
