Reading these old articles makes one realize how far all newspapers, especially the NY Times, have fallen.

That little article “Canal Zone Soldier Guilty of Murder” is an interesting side note. People have been committing random murder for a long time.

I’m not getting the impression that Reynaud is going to change anything tactically about how the British and French are conducting the war. The British are a bit huffy at us because some of us are calling it a phony war, and they do make a good point that the war at sea has been rather intense. But seriously, how long are they going to hide behind the Maginot Line. You win wars by occupying land, not sea, and I don’t see them very interested in occupying German territory. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the Germans didn’t launch some type of offensive here once spring has really set in.
