I always sort of compartmentalized W.C. Fields and the Crosby/Hope road movies in two different eras. But here we have releases of each two days apart. I guess this is an overlap. But after all, neither are that far removed from vaudeville. Mel Brooks movies would fit right in.

Don't miss the article on Sergeant York (the real one) on image #2.

Interesting take on “My Little Chickadee”. I recently saw it for the first time and always thought it was this grand classic. Turns out, it was only a mediocre film, and surprisingly, the original review was pretty much dead on.

One side note, I read somewhere that Mae West hated W.C.Fields. Evidently, her dislike for Fields was so intense that this picture almost didn’t get completed.

It didn't mention it here, but York's main demand was that Gary Cooper played him.

I had also not seen “My Little Chickadee” and went through life thinking it was some film classic. After all, it is the wellspring of several classic lines. But I would also agree with the Mr. Nugent’s review. It really wasn’t that great. But the photo of W.C. Fields is iconic.

I doubt “The Philadelphia Story” with Katherine Hepburn was much like the Tom Hanks version.

Although the story says Mr. York was in the best of health at age 58, I suspect there was a reason he appeared “ruddy faced.”
