But everyone has a big screen and cable.
>>But everyone has a big screen and cable.<<
Not the smart ones. I have a 15 year old tube type TV. I keep a “fund” that I contribute to every paycheck and pay cash for everything. The only debt I have is my mortgage and I will pay that off this coming year (after 13 years).
I am taking advantage of the 401K catch-up and the like and I project I should be OK by the time I hit 70 or so, assuming that SSI is nothing by the time I retire.

It’s sad but true that so many with so little seem to have all the fun stuff, isn’t it?
We’re well prepared for retirement and JUST got BASIC cable for the TV last year after we ponied up the $ for a new flat screen - a whole 32 inches and it cost very little due to ‘points’ from credit card purchases. Are we ‘cheap?’ Let’s just say we’re fairly ‘thrifty.’
I also have two computers...
The good news, I suppose, is that I’ve saved more than $50k...
I have neither big screen, nor cable, but we saved well for our retirement. Now 0bozo has his eyes on it. Our thrift just will give him more to hand out once he redefines “wealth” and “taxable income”, and caps what we can leave to our children. We might as well have bought the big screen and cable.
