AP source: Edwards won't be suspended

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – NASCAR will not suspend Carl Edwards for intentionally wrecking Brad Keselowski's car during last weekend's race at Atlanta.

There had been a loud cry for NASCAR to punish Edwards for returning to the track Sunday after an earlier wreck with Keselowski and then deliberately causing a crash. The contact sent Keselowski's car flying into the air, and it bounced on its hood off a retaining wall. No one was injured.

A person familiar with NASCAR's discussions said Edwards will not be suspended for his actions.

Did I read that correctly. You want to know the difference betwen a hockey fight and someone attacking another driver in a speeding race car?

So we'll only enforce laws in sporting events if they reach a certain level? Incidentally, I would venture a guess that more injuries occur as a result of hockey fights than they do from intentional NASCAR wrecks.

How many safety devices do NASCAR drivers have? How much protection do hockey fighters have?

And just for the record, I don't think any of these guys should be charged. Attempted murder? Ridiculous.

Your comment is a false conclusion. I said nothing about any laws. I merely responded to a ridiculous question by someone who doesn't know the difference between a fist fight with pads on and someone driving a race car into another car intentionally.

Your comment about the number of injuries is another example of illogic. It is not the number it is the risk.

Please apply more logic before coming back with other ridiculous coments, false assumptions, and mischaracterizations of my position.

You didn't have ANY position!

You just re-asked my question to me. How is that a position?

You can talk about risk all you wish. The fact is that hockey fights happen much more than intentional car crashes. But given the HANS device, roll cages, track safety features, helmets, fire suits, etc... I might be more inclined to take my chances in a race car than standing on skates squaring off against some hockey goon with zero head protection while standing on ice.

-------Please explain the difference between the two instances then. What Edwards did and fisticuffs between two hockey players.--------------

Dumb question of the week!

it’s because they don’t want to suspend a big sponsor

Zackly. Somebody with no decal on the quarter panel does this and it's "see ya in a month or two".

Guy, you’ve been here a few months. Either explain your reasoning or just shut up. You have done nothing but regurgitate my own statement. Noobie punk.

A hockey fight is unlikely to injure spectators (unless you have the Hanson brothers on the team).

There is a certain amount of risk that all spectators assume when they walk into any sporting venue. Just try wearing a visitors jersey to an Oakland Raiders game.

If you youtube hockey fights where it spills up in the stands I'm sure you'll get some interesting results. I think it actually happened in the NHL recently where a player went into the stands. And we all remember the NBA fight with Ron Artest.

Looking up someone’s sign-in date when you won’t admit you’re wrong is disengenouos and pathetic. Your own words reveal what you are. How long does someone have to be here before they approach your level of intellect?

How can I admit I'm wrong when you simply keep repeating my statement over and over again and present no other side? Are you for real?

Debate means that 2 sides present opposing arguments. It does not mean 1 side presents an argument and some dolt mocks the first argument by repeating it again and again.

Are you gonna tell me I have cooties now?

I am not debating you. I am showing how ignorant your question was. You keep prolonging it by arguing points which I did not bring up, nor am I interested in except as it shows you don’t even understand what you did, and letting more readers share the joke with me. So go ahead and respond and I’ll post your ridiculous question until you figure it out.

Please explain the difference between the two instances then. What Edwards did and fisticuffs between two hockey players.

Okay, if I must! There is a major difference between 2 hockey players going at it with hockey sticks in helmet and pads than drivers taking out someone (and intentional at that) with a car travelling at 180 plus mph and fans sitting close enough to get killed by the debris from the hurtling car. Maybe my reasoning isn’t valid to others but it makes a whole lot of sense to me.

And my point was that with all the safety devices, you really don't see too many drivers hurt anymore.

There are routinely 10-18 car pileups and everyone walks away without a scratch whereas hockey players routinely lose teeth, require stiches, sustain concusions, etc...

But my REAL original point was that there are laws against what Edwards did, and there are laws against what hockey players do. Where do you draw the line? Remember years ago when the hockey player hit the other guy in the head with a stick from behind? The attacker was arrested and charged.

To: thefactor; All

Since the factor thinks a hockey fight is the same as a race car driver intentionally crashing into another race car on the track he is trying to ridicule me for pointing out what a stupid comparison he made.

Yeah, guy, nobody cares about your pouting.

And you misstated my point. I think that pound for pound, hockey fights cause more injuries than NASACR wrecks. Both in sheer number and as a function of percentage of total number of incidents. You have a 12-car wreck that everybody walks away from and then you have 6 hockey fights. Show me which will require more stitches, trips to the hospital/dentist.
