Word For The Day, Monday, 3/8/10

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

feckless; adj.

1. ineffective; incompetent; futile: feckless attempts to repair the plumbing. 2. having no sense of responsibility; indifferent; lazy.

Lacking purpose or vitality; feeble or ineffective.

Careless and irresponsible.

Etymology: 1590s, from feck, "effect, value, vigor" (late 15c.), Scottish shortened form of effect; popularized by Carlyle, who left its opposite, feckful, in dialectal obscurity.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Friday nights on HBO at 9:30 ET. It’s animated. Tim is an office drone who lives in New York City. Just the most absurd things happen to him and no one else seems to see the absurdity. Like he is pressured to write condolences on a card for a co-worker whose husband dies. Under pressure (as the courier waits) he writes something stupid, and everyone hates him for it. Then he finds out the woman is faking deaths in the family to get more days off from work. But in the end, he is still seen as the bad guy.

Massa's rant is something. My favorite part is where he calls Rahm the son of the spawn of Satan.

Who knew that hillary was Rahm's mom?

Apparently Ben Roethlisberger (Which translated from the German, apparently means 'willforcehispecker) is calling in the big guns.......

Police said the woman reported that she was "sexually assaulted or sexually manipulated" by a man she described as 6-foot-5 and 241 pounds. She did not name Roethlisberger,

That seems odd. I know if someone famous "manipulated" me, I'd name him by name.

Yesterday's paper reported that Ben's behavior was gentlemanly, that he "nursed" a few drinks, was gregarious and open for people taking photos, getting autographs, etc.

Today's paper reports that the woman's friends and fellow students think she is an honest person.

Hard to make a case out of that.

I said in another forum, this kind of thing lends itself to false accusations (see Lacrosse,Duke)....I’m far more interested in what Goodell does absent a complete exoneration...

i don’t know if Ben has issues or not, but xshub acting all shocked like it was OUTRAGEOUS that there were reports of bouncers sending girls back to the private room where Ben et al BRIBED THEM WITH DRINKS was totally ridic [RME that this doesn’t go on routinely with professional athletes and Ben is SINGLE even]. The Ben haters are getting off on this. I don’t know enough about this present incident, but the past one sounds all kinds of fishy based on emails they have from her after the fact of the alleged incident but prior to her making the allegation where she doesn’t sound remotely RAPED, MANIPULATED or ASSAULTED.

I believe it’s an unwanted stirring of the soup, or of that nature.

Here in Atkinsonville we have two of the smartest people in the county, Rueben and his sister Rubella, they’re twins within about three years, and they say Feckless just means not having the little spots on your face called feckles.

For those inflicted with feckles try Dr. Prices Defectulation Cream, its totally harmonic! Sorry for the sales pitch but newspaper sales are down.

We had a feckless Saturday and Sunday.

Friday, the gardener and partner took down the 15-foot pine tree. It had some sort of “bug” inside it killing it. Thank the stars that we got it down in time not to give this bug a chance to get on someone else’s pine trees. At least, hopefully.

Saturday morn, the gardener and two partners came to do the lawns. They were doing really well, until —

A pebble broke through our largest window in the house. It was tempered glass in the master bedroom, a sliding glass door, the one that just stands there. It didn’t break at first, and the gardeners hadn’t even known it because of the mowing, edging, et cetera, noise.

I went out and said, “Look” to the gardener. Sure enough a small errant pebble had hit the window. Then it started crashing down in little pieces. I was taking a break from housework when it happened. Cyber has a sore back, hip and knee, so he was resting.

Of course, there was clean-up and more importantly getting the cats out of the room where Cyber was resting. Well the cats left lickedly-split after they heard the first piece coming down.

After the last piece had landed, here comes the clean up. There was glass everywhere. Cyber was on the floor checking it out. He needed gloves, a little broom, and something else. I forget.

I was in front of him in shoes looking at the crime scene. I turned around to get the things Cyber needed, and fell over him. Sheesh. My first fall in a year, I think. I was okay, and he was okay.

I ended up doing the rest of the clean up on the inside whilst the gardeners did the clean up on the outside. I had gotten them the super duper sucker jigamabob shop vac from Sears to suck up all of the glass on the outside. Also it was going to rain that night, a monster storm for us. Cyber slid the opening sliding glass door to the broken side, and thank goodness there was a screen.

Had a piece of plywood large enough for that screen door, and used the handyman’s secret weapon (duct tape) to attach the plywood to the screen door. Then put the ping pong table up against it, just in case.

All of my needs for the gardening were not finished because of this little faux pas. Just the one gardener is coming back in two weeks because of this rain we’re getting. That’s why the weeds were so large in such a short period of time.

Little did I know my brilliant Cyber was online finding a glass person to fix this problem. He found one, and that guy and his partner came on Sunday morning.

Really nothing bad happened. They measured and measured another table top that had been broken, took the frame that holds the glass in, and it off they were. But there was more broken glass from the sides of the window.

The enormous storms came, and we were safe. It was loud, though, without a real window to shut out the noise. At one poing the plywood was flapping, but the glass guy had screwed it into the house to the plywood, so there was no fear.

He’s coming back today at 2:30 to make a template of the patio table.

It’s been an expensive weekend —

I gotta get going, but wanted to thank everyone for the cakes and the party. I was bad, but had great arguments with the jerk. I think I needed to vent. LOL!
