Word For The Day, Monday, 3/8/10

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

feckless; adj.

1. ineffective; incompetent; futile: feckless attempts to repair the plumbing. 2. having no sense of responsibility; indifferent; lazy.

Lacking purpose or vitality; feeble or ineffective.

Careless and irresponsible.

Etymology: 1590s, from feck, "effect, value, vigor" (late 15c.), Scottish shortened form of effect; popularized by Carlyle, who left its opposite, feckful, in dialectal obscurity.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

My four are 5-12....The 5 Year old was a little freaked by the IMAX/3D format (A little overwhelming)

well certainly not for little ones like your girlies, it has scary stuff like the frumious bandersnatch. Tim Burton's stuff is always a bit twisted, so there really isn't anything kiddielike about this. But it's fun for grownups.

But ALice in Wonderland is perfect for us LUCIFEROUS LOGOLEPTICS!

"What caused 'Alice' to survive? It's the genius of the language. It's the delightful play of words that Carroll indulges in. The people who love his work are people who love words." "Carroll invented words, just as Shakespeare did," White adds. "You start wondering, 'How does language get its origin? How do words come to define things?'

I was wondering if my adult son might like it...he likes the other 3d stuff out there. I suppose he might think it’s too childish.

there were an assortment of GEEKS, twentysomethings, sitting in the row in front of us. xsgirls and i laughed our heads off at them. Anyone who saw the movie Sydney White and the 7 Dorks would understand why we referred to them as GHERKINS OF HONOR. that is kind of our code word for that sort. They were straight out of the Vortex. you saw that, didn’t you soother?

Don’t like Tim Burton. Can’t stand Johnny Depp.
From the previews and poster for this movie, it appears to make my “must miss” list.

I did see Sydney White, but haven’t memorized it or anything.

I watched “Mirrors” with Kiefer Sutherland over the weekend. Pretty cool horror story. Also, “Jennifer’s Body” on BluRay. You know how it goes. Satanic rock band sacrifices virgin to Satan for success, but girl isn’t a virgin, so she instead becomes inhabited by a demon who has to feed on human flesh from time to time.

Typical teen comedy.

I’m waiting for his take on Arbor Day, or perhaps the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost.

I have to join the guys on this one - Alice in Wonderland just doesn't interest me at all.

I am, however, very excited about the HBO series starting next Sunday called "The Pacific" or maybe just "Pacific"... looks like another "Band of Brothers"
