My first thought was “The Queen of Sheba” but it is too new by nearly a thousand years.

Gods
Graves
Glyphs
See what you think, but this appears to be gibberish. A crypt "150 and 180 meters in length" and "over 9 meters in height"?!? If it were a large underground chamber constructed (as in Petra, which is a thousand miles away or something) to capture runoff from the intermittent rains, yeah, but these dimensions would correspond to possibly the largest carved underground structure from antiquity.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.

Solomon lived about 800BC or so; if the crypt is 2500 vs. 1100 years old...it could be Sheba’s Queen.

Well when part of the kingdom became Jewish they proceeded to massacre all Christians which led to the the invasions of Persians...and on it goes.

it is very old, perhaps between 2100 or 2200 years old, from the Himyarite Period. This would mean it predates the arrival of Islam within Yemen,"

Of no obvious monetary/extortionist/utilitarian value, and dates to evil Pagan Period, so must be destroyed...unless it is a suitable site for a mosque.

He thought it would be a good idea to mention it, since Yemenis listening or reading about it wouldn’t have the first clue.

Solomon was earlier than that, and it couldn’t be Sheba’s queen.

Well obviously there was no occupation of this crypt during the Time of Ignorance prior to Mohammed.

When I was a Classics Major, I did a paper on the Queen of Sheba.

I had always thought she was from Ethiopia. That turned out to be not only incorrect, it also turned out that the Ethiopia of the ancient Greeks was not the Ethiopia of today.

The Queen of Sheba was from what was once South Yemen, now just Yemen.

Interesting article - thanks for the link. I was travelling in this part of Yemen last year: one of the most beautiful parts of the world I’ve ever been in. Stated dimensions of the chamber seem almost too massive to believe, but there’s so much unknown ancient history in this part of the world....who knows?

INVENTORY OF TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION

Archaeological site of Qana (Yemen). The Qana promontory on the Indian Ocean is equipped with various types of water harvesting devices.

Crypt? Maybe it's a water-storage device, roofed over, as were similar at Petra.

LOL! Yeah, by about 1500 years. Man, you can't put anything past these sharp-eyed raghead scholars.
