Storm over women drug addicts paid £200 to be made infertile

LOCKED in the grip of drug addiction, the only thing mum-of-nine Felicia LeMay cared about was getting her next hit of crystal meth. The victims of her deadly habit included her baby son, who was born hooked on the drug and put straight into care by social workers.

But the birth helped create a turning point in Felicia's life, and when she fell pregnant again she agreed to take part in a controversial sterilisation scheme which has caused a storm in America - and could be about to hit Britain.

US campaigner Barbara Harris runs Project Prevention - a group which pays drug addicts $300 (about £200) to be sterilised so they cannot have any more children.

Ah, here we go.

How far away can we be to people selling thier own body parts?

And then, when that happens, of course, those russian thugs will start selling your body parts for you (the ultimate "identity theft") and pocketing the bootie.

Is that a pun?

Sterilization is permanent and if a woman addict ever turns her life around, she’s got no second chances at motherhood.

It says “Storm” over what she’s doing, but all is read was women who were pleased that they had done the right thing. Were these “critics” so uncredible that it would have essentially endorsed the program?

Not only that, but she can never have an obortion again. Planned Parenthood must hate this.

“But critics say it exploits desperate women by funding their habit and depriving them of reproductive choice.”

These evil do-gooders should be made to support these crack addicts and their babies that they’re so “concerned” about. What scum!

Its voluntary and frankly, if they’re prepared to take the money, I say let them go for it....

Sounds to me like the program is actually giving woman a choice. Choosing not to conceive is better then choosing to abort or to keep having kids when you can’t afford them, have a drug problem, etc. This sounds like a way for people to do the right thing and be paid to do it. I think this option should also be given to men, there are too many men out there fathering but not the child they help conceive.

Sterilization is an offence against God. It is never justified and it is sinful.

This particular woman is already the mother of 9. I think they focus on addicts that are already mothers.

Any that "turn their lives around" can adopt.

I disagree. Thoughtlessly bringing innocents into the world already damaged by drugs as they draw their first breath is sinful. Choosing not to condemn another innocent life to a lifetime of the after effects of illict drug use may be the first semi-intelligent decision they have made in a long time...if ever. It may not make them candidates for sainthood, but it does not warrant their stoning either.

Sterilization is no different then mutilating a perfectly healthy part of the body. It’s like saying your hand hurts so you cut off the hand.

The solution here is to get her off the drugs, not to sterilize her. And it’s not a permanent answer, it can be undone, although this is rather difficult.

Many drug addicts just dont come off drugs. it is not as easy as one thinks. Drug addicts are usually dumb people who do not or cannot face the world. lThey often come from chaotic backgrounds.

They are not good parent material.

it is not our job to grow megacrops of low funcitioning babies.
