Prince Harry WILL fly Apaches after all despite claim he 'doesn't have brain capacity'
Daily Mail ^ | 2/27/2010 | Katie Nicholl

Prince Harry famously said he didn’t have the ‘brain capacity’ to fly an Apache attack helicopter – but now it seems he may be proved wrong.

Sources at the Army Air Corps headquarters in Middle Wallop, where the Prince is learning to fly, have told The Mail on Sunday that Harry is being considered to pilot the demanding aircraft after doing well on his current training.

If Harry does graduate to an Apache, it could help his dream to return to the front line in Afghanistan, where he served in December 2008, as there is a shortage of Apache crews.

Until now, he has been learning to fly a Lynx utility helicopter, used for support and convoy protection as well as ferrying troops around; but Apaches have a more direct combat role. And if training goes well, he could be deployed in Afghanistan at the controls of an Apache as early as next year.

One of his superiors at Middle Wallop, Hampshire, said: ‘Harry has done better on his course than we were expecting and that is why the Apache is now being considered for him. You have to be able to take in a lot of information very quickly and have good situational awareness and Harry has proved that he has.’ Harry will undergo another six to eight weeks of training before any decision is made.***

‘The Apache can disorientate a lot of pilots because of its technical demands. For instance the pilot receives his information through a monocle that covers one eye.You have so much information coming in all the time, it is very demanding. They are hard work.’

You have to admire this kid. He really seems to want to get back into the fight.

So did he get his brain capacity from his father or his mother?

“So did he get his brain capacity from his father or his mother?”

From his paternal grandmother. Where he also got his heart.

I have a great deal of admiration for the young man or I should say, for the young prince.

So did he get his brain capacity from his father or his mother?

Or did Prince Charles have something to do with it?

Harry looks to get back into the fight, while his father “fights” global warming (despite his huge “carbon footprint”), and his brother tackles the Kingdom’s most pressing social issues. Good for Harry.

...meanwhile his older brother is sleeping on London streets, his father is moping around muttering something about global warming, and his grandmother, despite all her money and immeasurable fame apparently can't find anything worthy enough to give her time to and shows no apparent interest in the liberal & Islamic tidal wave enveloping her country despite being the titular head of the Church of England.

I don’t think it has much to do with “brain capacity.”

Some of the smartest people I know are the type that will trip over their own feet.

I would wager he and his brother got their smarts from their mom. She made sure they saw and understood they were born into this family of wealth and that did not make them any more special than anyone else. I think this is one reason they carry on with many of the charities and campaigns that were dear to her.
Charles..he is clueless about many things. He was brought up differently and his family was distant..whoever heard of a child having to make an appt to see mom..even if she is queen. Just review the photos of Diana and her reaction to seeing her “boys” whenever she greeted them..what a contrast.

Well, Uncle Andy was said to be a pretty darn good chopper pilot. Decoyed Argentine missiles away from his ship, IIRC. Flew anti-sub and SAR missions in the Falklands war. Maybe that should be the First Falklands War?

That was supposed to have been cut. I do vaguely remember something about that, but could not verify.

Like many other, he flew patrols in a helicopter with the stealthing deliberately removed. The idea being that if a missile attack was made, it might be spoofed to hit one helicopter rather than a destroyer.

Not quite that dangerous, just trusting the missile would think it was aiming at a ship and maintain flight at 1-2m altitude above sea level.

Still requires big brass ones.
