Never ever put your head down and ignore the other players. Hard checking is allowed and I was clobbered hard a couple of times.
Keep your stick on the ice! Err, wait...that’s hockey...
At what level? I played from 5 years old all the way into college. Different tips for different levels.
Wear the armored jock.
At the earliest levels through the pros you focus on the fundamentals. Scooping, catching, passing, and shooting. Next you would learn dodging and defending. Dodges like the bull, roll, face, and split dodge. Playing defense is very similar to basketball. Either man to man or a zone. Defensive checks involve the slap check, poke check, and many other creative methods to dislodge the ball.
At more advanced levels you learn clearing, riding, offensive sets, faceoffs, defensive sliding (double teams), etc.
You’re playing lacrosse for an article? Are you the 2nd coming of George Plimpton?
I played for Tennessee back in 1977. I didn’t know a thing about Lacrosse; I was an hon mention all state LB in Texas HS so they signed me up. It was great fun, hits were just like football and scooping the ball was like shoveling horse manure. I mainly just plowed into folks and passed the ball to others. The ball hurt like hell and I wasn’t too macho to wear the cup.
Rule #1: Do not hire Crystal Gail Mangum to strip at your parties.
I played in high school and a club team in college. It was the most exciting of the sports I played when young. When I played in college the home team was required to supply the keg for after the game. The beer always tasted like nectar after a hard game.
I heard a promotion for lax the other day on some thread that said;
Its like baseball, with more hits.
Its like soccer, with more scoring.
Its like hockey. With balls.
