“It is possible to be personally completetly anti-abortion (I am), believe the current law ought to be changed (I most certainly do) and still feel compelled to respect *the legal right* of others to follow the law as currently written and enforced.”

“follow the law as currently written and enforced”

That is why some people here support Operation Rescue type civil disobedience to protest heinous law (1973), like the civil disobeyers protested unjust laws in the 1960s.

I personally think we need to go beyond even that and fund, finance and promote a Life ethic and abstinence based sex education in the country - crisis pregnancy centers throughout the land and shame and taboo heaped upon young men who would get a young woman pregnant and walk away from her. Also promotion of teaching Life choices in the public schools and private schools (public schools need to give equal hearing to Life Choices, as they are our tax dollars too!!)

Such actions will go far in reducing abortions.

And we need to fight the legal battles that would, as someone opined above, make it illegal to kill a child 5 minutes after birth, but not 5 minutes before birth.

Such laws are HEINOUS on their face.

Such actions go far toward reducing

Yes. If you and others re-read my original post you will find that the word "compelled" is used in regard to repecting others' legal rights. That is an important word.

Other than that we all have freedom to discuss whatever but if this turns into an abortion thread our liberal guest will never come back. That would be a shame and a terrible waste of a great opportunity IMHO.
