SEAFORD, England - Two dogwalkers said they feared the worst when their springer spaniel leaped from a 300-foot cliff, but the dog bounced off a wave and swam to shore.
Lia Markwick and Stephen Winslade, who were walking Poppy as a favor for Lia's brother, said the canine was chasing a seagull and made a flying leap from the cliff in Seaford, England, The Sun reported Monday.
Markwick and Winslade said they expected to look down and see Poppy's body, but instead the dog had managed to avoid hitting the rocks below and landed in the high tide, allowing her to swim to a nearby beach. Markwick said they called Coast Guard authorities, who recovered the canine after it made its way to dry land.
The dog's owners, Ben Markwick and Kelly Ixter, said Poppy suffered a collapsed lung but is expected to make a full recovery.

My first thought was that scene from the movie “There’s Something About Mary”, where the little dog jumps at the guy, or chases a ball or whatever, misses and flies over the balcony railing...
Glad doggie made it OK.

When I saw the headline I thought “how could that happen”, when I saw “chasing a seagull” I can totally believe it. Dogs can get overly focused on a chase.

This will be used to pass a law requiring parachutes for dogs on a walk.

Gotta love that “WTF?” expression on his face.

I’ll bet that seagull he was chasing had some good schadenfreude as he watched the dog go into the drink.

Reminds me of that movie where the group had to leave their sled dogs on their own for six months. The dogs brought seagulls back to feed an injured one (dog).
