Hand knit socks are the best. I make them to fit for my husband (size 12 EEEE width), son (size 13 narrow), and daughter (size 9.5 EE width). I use Regia stretch wool (very fine gauge) or a cotton/elastic yarn.

I also knit lots of socks for soldiers in the ME. Whew ... those are a project. 12"-13" of ribbed leg plus a BIG foot. But the group I knit with has knitters from all over the world and the group has sent over 4,000 hand knit pairs of socks to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have no idea where to buy socks that fit, tho.

Until you have had series of socks that don’t fit...you can’t begin to understand this affects you daily.

I finally found great socks...they are “InStride Foot Health Comfort Socks” at www.instrideshoes.com.
They are sooooo comfortable.

I sent some to Chieftain’s twin sons (Marines) when they were overseas last time. I joked with the boys in the letter I included in the “Care Package” that when I asked their Dad what young men might want, he said”Sex” and I misunderstood “Socks”...they got a kick out of that.

If your looking for an cotton type athletic type sock JC Penny’s carries Addidas athletic socks that fit from size 6 and up shoe.
We pick these up for grandfather who wears an 8 1/2 shoe and they fit great. They wash up nice too.
They cost a little more than the bargain socks like Fruit of the Loom but they fit well and JC Penny’s put them buy one get one 50% off quite frequently.
