I fail to see where Trig is being made fun of in this clip. Is it in other parts of the episode? Someone, please clarify the problem for me.
In the clip, a DS girl is the object of affection for the older son, Chris. They go on a date. She is clear about wanting to be treated with respect ("Hold out my chair", "Don't be rude, ask me about myself") and is even a bit forward ("Now give me a shoulder rub")... there's NOTHING insulting to Sarah Palin or Trig Palin or those with Down's Syndrome in that clip at all. They merely make a connection between a person with DS and Sarah Palin... as would most Americans, since Trig is probably the only person they know with DS.
This is being far over-blown by the hyper-sensitive. In Sarah's case, she has a right to be... she has been under full media assault for about a year now. The rest of us should be more insightful on her behalf. Her advisors should have been more on top of this one.
Take your own daughter or son to a strip bar, don’t demand that you bring Palin’s kids or mine either.
Nice spin . However , the horse is out of the barn. The fallout is fun to watch. Maybe they should leave the kids out of their hate rants . The left has lost perspective .
I disagree. Why is it when Clinton is in office his daughter is respected and off limits (same with any democrat really). But if it’s a republican their kids are fair game.
The media either need to leave her kids alone or attack all politicians kids.
The character says at one point that she is the daughter of the former Alaskan Governor.
It was clearly a dig at Trig.
“I fail to see where Trig is being made fun of in this clip. Is it in other parts of the episode? Someone, please clarify the problem for me.”
HUH!! The former governor of Alaska?? Clue:The chick has Downs syndrome,Make the connection?
I’m glad someone else sees this. Now, we need to draw the picture. Why did the leftists from Family Guy do this?
In my opinion, they were trying to draw an attack from Palin, and they succeeded. But nobody who watches that clip who isn’t a Palin supporter will see an attack on her son, they will see a teenage female Down’s Syndrome child being used as a normal character, which I thought was what we wanted.
Instead, we are tripping over ourselves to be politically correct.
Look, I understand what you say. The character played in the scene was actually fidelic to the behavior of young adults with Down’s Syndrome. Even the demand for a backrub — because physical contact — hugs, rubs, with adults and strangers is a big part of the experience of children growing up with Downs.
But you’re wrong for at least a few reasons I can, hopefully, make clear.
The first is what I suggested with my first post — Family Guy is a bad hangout. By placing an obvious take-off on Trig in that setting, is like placing Trig himself in bad company. Yes, it’s ‘virtual’, being a cartoon, but ‘virtual’ life is more and more linked with real life.
It’s a False Lights slander. I’d guess most Freepers know what that is already. Sarah was hobbled by another, similar, False Lights slander, when funny gal Tina Fey dressed up like Sarah and said “I can see Russia from my front porch!”
Sarah never said that, but many people STILL believe she did. False lights were used by shore pirates to draw ships in shallows where they’d wreck or beach. As a doctrine of slander it means that something not really associated with a person or the discussion at hand is used to smear it.
Another way it would be wrong to leave the skit go unchallenged is that to allow it is to allow or condone future use of Trig as a stock item by comedians, something that would surely result in more despicable characterizations.
