NEW YORK (Reuters) -- A peppy Scottish terrier known as Sadie was crowned the nation's top dog on Tuesday, winning Best in Show at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club championship.
Sadie, a jet-black four-year-old bitch formally known as Ch Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, displayed the ideal combination of breeding standards and confidence, beating out 2,500 entrants at the 134-year-old dog show.
"She's the total package," marveled Elliot Weiss, of Eagle, Idaho, who judged the Best in Show round before a cheering, capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden.
"This is the complete dog ... That's what you want a Scottie to look like," said Weiss.

HG is that you???
I was pulling for that Boxer or the Poodle, but that’s because I’m an owner of both. In other news, Miss Beasley is quite pleased with the outcome, and we all know that Miss Beasley is a cute little armful, herself.
50 lbs of dog in a 5 lb package......
A haggis diet will do that to you.
Terrier bump.
Scotties rule. (Followed closely by Cairns and West Highlands.)
All labs look the same to me.
I see even the dog show judges miss G W Bush!
Someone needs to put a “Miss Me Yet!” on a pic of the Bush’s dogs!
I love the Norwich!
When we take him to the dog park off lease he is polite (no rude barking) with the other dogs. After he's decided he's had enough he runs to our car. Once safely inside the car he will ferociously bark at ever dog in sight.
General Jackson loves Greenies, but he will only eat them outside. Once Sweet Hubby gave Jackson a Greenie as a consolation prize for being left at home. When we returned four hours later, the Greenie remained untouched. Jackson picked up his Greenie and raced to the backdoor. Still holding his beloved Greenie he franticly growled and bumped his head against the door. Once outside he quickly devoured his treat.
I once lived next door to an insurance agent who swore she could tell in a minute if a Basset Hound was in the house.
There are so many little things dog breeds do or have that you never find out until you have one.
For instance, my lab leans on me. He’ll just get closer and closer until he’s in my lap. Several people told me it’s a breed trait.
I also used to have a Shetland Sheepdog. (Best dog I ever owned) I thought it was a strange peculiarity of his that he would take kibble out of his bowl one by one and eat it in another room. But then two people who got Shelties (because they loved mine) both told me their Shelties did the same thing.
Whoops, should make that clear. She said Bassets have a strange odor.
The toy poodle had tons of charisma.
he’s cute! I love dogs, mine are 90 lbs.
Curious. I’ve owned two Shelties. I’m a believer that every man or woman is entitled to one truly great dog; mine was my first Sheltie. She led directly to eight other Sheltie purchases by people who knew her.
My Shelties frequently, but not always, would eat their kibble as yours did. Take one piece out of the bowl, carry it to another room, and eat it.
I now have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They won’t eat unless they are in the same room as you (frankly, as Cavaliers, they won’t leave your side). If you set the food out in the kitchen at a time when there’s nobody in there cooking, then they’ll go hungry.
They’ll follow me into the kitchen when I grab something out of the ‘fridge, and take a bite if they have an opportunity - or wait until I bring their bowls into my office or another room where I am. Then, and only then, they’ll eat.

Surprised that the Obamastappo didn’t require that a Portugese Water Dog win the competition, though.
I had a feeling Sadie would win it, but I was pulling for the Dobie, Whippet and Puli. I thought those three came as close as an of the others.
Don't forget the Aussie. We have a Scotty, a Westy and a Aussie. All good dogs and all different. The Scotty is a bully but she is a great dog. The Westy is the queen and the Aussie though the smallest takes no crap from the other two. We love them all.

Really? I have 3 labs and, aside from color, all three have distinct characteristics in the way they look. There's also some very big differences between show labs like what you would see at Westminister and those that come from from hunting stock.
“Don’t forget the Aussie. We have a Scotty, a Westy and a Aussie.”
We have a Scottie, a Cairn, and a Westie.
I’m not familiar with the Aussie. I’ll have to check that out.
