This is a 1939 movie. It received a Best Picture nomination, losing to “Gone With the Wind.” Maybe Nugent knew about the nomination and that is why he got around to reviewing it now after passing on it at its December 30 release.

Steinbeck tells of economic powerlessness and victimization during the Great Depression through the story of two California migrant field workers fated to lose in life's lottery.

I'd really like to see again this well-constructed and well-acted adaption of Steinbeck's book (which was attacked at the time for its "vulgarity").

Interesting timing to read this review posted by Homer today when we may be lurching towards another great depression if Obammie the Commie isn't thwarted in his plan to destroy our country's economy.

By the way, as most of you probably know, the title "Of Mice and Men" comes from a line in a Robert Burns poem....."the best-laid plans of mice and men oft go awry."

Let's hope the plans of Obama (the rodent, not the man) goes awry, also.

The first clip I posted above shows the opening credits. It shows the entire Burns quote before closing in on the movie title.

I prepared the 2/28/40 news thread this morning. A small filler item I am including announces that "Of Mice and Men" is among four American films banned by the Commonwealth Film Censor of Australia.
