Do you think these are “conservative” pricnciples????

Umm, yeah. Except for the open borders and disagree slightly with the foreign policy stance.

What could you disagree with?

You know, I think FR has an affinity program with Hotels.com or Orbitz or one of them things and I am sure we can get you 2 a room at a reasonable rate. We might even be ale to get breakfast thrown in...

I didn’t redact this thing from your link. But look at some of the other things these people, who believe that social security is socialism, also believe:

No drug laws. Open borders with no immigration controls. No taxes or IRS. No safety net for the poor or sick. Or the old.

That is the problem. Conservatives rightly want a limited government, but limited does not mean anarchy. It does not mean “no” government. And notice how the chief thing in the libertarian philosophy is don’t get between them and their property. Morally, we have names for people like this. We call them selfish, miserly, and self absorbed. It is also childish. This is why when they run a candidate, he or she typically pulls maybe 1% of the vote, and is why they have to glom onto the GOP.

There are parts of libertarianism that are appealing. Nobody likes taxes. But they are a necessary part of life in a civilized society. Reagan was a conservative. He was not a libertarian.

I hope that you are beginning to ask yourself how it is that you, presumably a conservative, have come to accept these libertarian ideas. Please look into it. And then I suspect you will be on these threads with me, getting called a socialist by other freepers, and then slowly but surely showing them how they, and the conservative movement, at least as far as economics, have been co-opted by a bunch of goobers.

One day! Right now I am practicing my guitar and trying to get my health back. Plus, we got to wait until the economy collapses and we get our monthly BIG checks. Plus, by that time, the 20 something chicks will be hungry, having blown their BIG checks on girl stuff like lipstick and Ruro Magazines. (People will be back living in the country and Cosmo will be out of business)

parsy, who has it all planned

Indeed, there would be a big difference in “trying to limit illegal immigration” and just throwing open the borders.

But, as far as I can tell, our gov’t is only pretending to try to limit it. Last I read, there were 12 million illegals here.

The bottom line is that it is simply fantasy that isn’t real, has never existed and can’t. We may as well start talking about Communism if we can fantasize the perfect conditions and the new version of humans that would make it work.

Here is the leftists agenda hidden behind the Libertarian Party curtain.

Libertarian Party Platform:

Throw open the borders completely; only a rare individual (terrorist, disease carrier etc.) can be kept from freedom of movement through “political boundaries”.

Homosexuals; total freedom in the military, gay marriage, adoption, child custody and everything else.

Abortion; zero restrictions or impediments.

Pornography; no restraint, no restrictions.

Drugs; Meth, Heroin, Crack, and anything new that science can come up with, zero restrictions.

Advertising those drugs, prostitution, and pornography; zero restrictions.

Military Strength; minimal capabilities.

I almost think they are too childish to have leftist or rightist agendas. They seem more interested in doing what they want, when they, and how they want. Like a bunch of spoiled brats. All party and no responsibility.

Let them age, and get sick, or hurt, and watch how fast they split from libertarianism. But that being said, how in the world did conservatives ever fall for the libertarian economic policies?

parsy, who has been ranting about this for years

The interest in this thread is awesome. I look forward to taking the time to dissect all the information here. It’s a privilege to have a forum in which to share these ideas.

The French aren’t exactly looked upon with favor.

I give them a pass for the Battle of Tours and Poitier.

Also for getting that jerk off Degaulle whose ego nearly sunk the many times over republic in the 1960’s.

Its interesting that you spent lots of paragraphs bashing libertarians, but not really very much time at all saying exactly what was wrong with each of those libertarian points, except to say they are childish and stupid. The truth is the founders were very much libertarian in their approach. It would be interesting to hear you pose your solutions to all of the areas where you bashed Libertarians, the free market, and Ayn Rand.

The truth is a lot libertarian ideas do require a lot of individual responsibility and individual personal growth, quite the opposite of what you’ve asserted. I’d welcome a robust debate and not just saying basically, “libertarians s**k.”

Just finished watching The Departed.

Love the last scene where he gets shot and then they cut to the rat. Too funny.
