VANITY: What's gonna happen to that Austrian luge dude who dissed all the luge chicks?
Olympic vanity | 2-14-2010 | Vanity

Anybody see the interview with the Austrian luge dude who complained about having to start "from the old lady position"?

Austria must be about 40 years behind the PC curve...

I'd place bets on him being badly pummeled and launched down the luge on a sled from the top, myself.

Just sayin'.

As long as we're on the subject, is anybody else sick already of the GE commerical that has all those people saying "AH" at the doctor's office, all strung together to come out like Beethoven's Ode to Joy?

And how 'bout the cheesy homogenized John Williams arrangement of "Bugler's Dream" that NBC keeps using year, after year, after year? Instead of the brief, powerful piece of real MUSIC that debuted in 1968 from the broadcast at Innsbruck, Austria?

Hey - speaking of pummeling a guilty person and launching them down the luge from the top position...

/end vanity un-PC rant.

Happy Valentine's Day to all. :)

Moving down the track was supposed to slow them some from the 90mph and make it saver.

One earlier tonight hit 91mph on the shorter track, however.

Shouldn’t we be envious of someone not bitten by the “PC” bug?

Can you imagine changing a golf tourney to use the “ladies tees?”

He has a point — you take up a dangerous sport, sometimes you lose — sometimes you lose it all.

Does that mean you apply the “Tom Brady Rule” to all the competitors?

Nothing. After all, when the women finally run from the same spot, and all their times are lower than the worst male time, what are they going to say to him?

Yeah, like Carson Palmer going down from a shot to the knee didn’t raise any issues in the NFL either.

The Canadian luge coach estimated that change in the starting line would only reduce speeds by 10 km/h. Even it it were effective in reducing speed, that is a trivial amount and barely reduces danger. I think they should have left it the way it was, some luge racers feel that they are being robbed of a chance to break a World Record.

Luge;
The first recorded use of the term is 1905, from the Savoy/Swiss dialect of French "luge" meaning "small coasting sled", and is possibly from a Gaulish word with the same root as English sled

So a hundred years ago, someone decided to lie face up on a sled and see if they could/would survive the ride down the hill.

I don't think anyone heard of this drunken, maniacal practice until maybe the 80's or 90's when it showed up as a sport, that followed the Jamaican bobsled team.

And now, like Kwaanza, an entire philosophy will be invented and developed which, in another 40 or 50 years will become part of our culture.

The Currier and Ives of 2060 will show moonlit snowy hillsides, Kincaid lit churches in the background, and laughing children hurtling down at breakneck speeds.

See what alcohol and drugs do?
