SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - It's Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and Illinois is celebrating by sealing up a time capsule and taking pictures of life across the state.
Lincoln would have turned 201 today.
To mark the occasion, officials are preparing a time capsule that will be stored at the Lincoln Presidential Library.
It will include items such as birthday cards, photos and documents from the celebration of his 200th birthday.
The time capsule is supposed to be opened in 2109.
The Associated Professional Photographers of Illinois will also help celebrate.
They're shooting Lincoln-themed pictures around the state today and will post the images online.
meh...
“They’re shooting Lincoln-themed pictures “ ..
I know it’s correct, but just seems awkward.
I asked this question of my high school students today as part of an assignment: “To what political party did Abraham Lincoln belong?” I heard one girl say “I think it was the Boston Tea Party”, a couple of them wrote “Democratic” and “Whig”, “National Party”, “Third Party”. I expected them to look it up if they didn’t know, but really, I didn’t expect anyone would say “Boston Tea Party” and mean it. Two said Republican.
.
Sad.
That state is so damn corrupt I’m surprised they even consider Lincoln as one of them.
I understand how a FLIP SLICK WILLARD RINO ROMNEY supporter such as yourself would be all retarded over him.
Deo vindice!

Deo vindiced in 1865 when Lee surrendered.
The pro-secession press of the day would have disagreed with you as seen by this publication issued months before Lincoln even took office.
Yep....truly the saddest day in American history.
I think Lee’s greatest act was in having the moral fiber to suppress the urge of his younger officers to continue the fight as guerrillas.
If anybody remembers who he is... or cares...

Unfortunately, I have to admit that I have no knowedge about that 'cuz I absolutely HATED history when I was in high school back in the late '70s. But considering the fact that it is Robert E. Lee you are referring to, a man that I consider to be one of America's GREATEST human beings ever Ialong w/ George Washington & David Robinson), what you said does not surprise me one bit.
That was NOT a surrender, it was time out. Yankees no longer have the edge in manufacturing, agriculture or chemicals. They also do not have an advantage in an armed populace.
As for Lincoln, his usurpation of the Constitution was like the phrase used in Vietnam: “We had to destroy the village, in order to save it”.
Deo vindice
I don't think the Civil War was even North versus South in the 1860s. There were Copperhead, pro-Confederate strongholds in the North like New York City and in the South, hundreds of thousands of Southerners fought in the Union army, many more engaged in various forms of resistance to the Confederate usurpers and millions were lukewarm at best in regards to the slaveowners' power grab, Only a minority of Southerners were truly enthusiastic about the rebellion. The early collapse of the Confederate will to win shows it.
And what usurpations did Lincoln engage in? The rebellion started before he took office and even then all he wanted to do was what the Constitution directed him to do, deliver the mail and make the Constitutionally-mandated collections at ports. I wish our federal government today would restrain itself like Lincoln.
ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!
Two! That’s a lot. Sadly.
I was at the public library yesterday, and there was absolutely no display for Lincoln’s birthday, as they do for other special occasions/holidays.
Of course, a big display for “Black History” Month... lots of lefties, no Clarence Thomas.
The beat goes on.
And wouldn’t you think the current administration would make mention of The Great Emancipator...??
