One of the Great Ones. The greatest in recent memory is Ronald Reagan.

Was George W. Bush a great President?

When you compare him to the current usurper - a resounding YES!

He was great in defending our country, but in many things he was not so great.

Relative to the current freak, maybe, but not relative to Reagan. Not even close.

Regarding the threat of Islam and the War on Terror, Bush made a few errors but overall understood the need to engage this enemy.

Regarding immigration, the growth of the federal government(prescription drug plan anyone),letting the left take shots at him and not fighting back, Bush rec’d poor remarks.

However, future historians will say that Bush was spot on regarding the Islamic threat and he will be praised.

George W. Bush was an above-average President overall ... A LOT better than Obama or Carter, better than his father, better than Clinton, significantly worse than Reagan. He gets the solid B+ that Obama was looking for.

His foreign policy decisions were good, though tactical mistakes were made in the prosecution of war efforts. He responded to the attacks of 9-11, and put us in a position to acheive victory.

His domestic policy was OK. He spent too much, but at least understood the concept of cutting taxes to spur economic growth. The first bailout package left a stain on his legacy, however — but not an insurmountable one.

Every incompetent decision Obama makes improves the Bush legacy.

Solidly middle of the pack.

Top 3
1) George Washington
2) Abraham Lincoln
3) Ronald Reagen

Bottom 3
42) Jimmy Carter
43) B Hussein Obama (But don't count him out of the bottom spot yet. If he actually starts a Civil War that kills off over 3% of the total US population he could yet be worse than...)
44) James Buchanan

If Bush II was so great a President, why did the GOP lose control of Congress in 2006 in his second term, and why did the Dems sweep Congress AND the White House in 2008???

I wish the Bushbots in this forum would just disappear and take the entire Bush Klan with them in the process.’’By continually dredging this guy up, they are just generating problems for the GOP and conservatives to deal with today.

Bush was a BAD President who did a few good things - VERY few.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, LOL. my favorite quote of his - “i abandoned free market principals to save the free market”. What i find funny is when i agree with a liberal friend on disliking Bush, it is always for completely different reasons.

W. left the nuclear infrastructure intack in Iran. That fact alone will forever keep him from being a great foreign policy president.

Bush’s weakness and drift on domestic and economic issues deprive him of any credible claim to greatness. On foreign policy and national security, he rates a B or B+.

Of the 44 presidents we’ve had, George W. certainly ranks in the bottom 15%. I mean, come on, the guy could barely utter a sentence without mangling it. The reason we’re on tinter hooks about Iran now is because Bush was spineless in dealing with them, this is directly his fault, and certainly the economy was in a severe downward spiral under his administration.

Absolutely, George W. Bush was one of the worst presidents in history, but compared to Obama he’s George Washington.

Bush did quite well, especially since he had to work with a Democratic Senate from 2001 through January of 2003, and then with a Democratic Congress from Jan 2007 through Jan 2009.

Tax cuts. Banning partial birth abortion (the first SCOTUS victory against Roe v Wade). Missile defenses. Offshore drilling. Faith-based Charity. Dethroning Charles Taylor in Liberia, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Expanding NATO. Legalizing private space travel. Convincing Libya to surrender all of their WMDs without bloodshed or bribes.

Bush looks better every day.
