The Who halftime show
As seen on CBS | 8 February 2010 | Self

Posted on 02/08/2010 8:11:25 AM PST by ROLF of the HILL COUNTRY

There are conservatives, including some of us here on Free Republic, that consider the song "We don't get fooled again!" to have a conservative theme.

The Who saved that for their final performance last night. Did anyone else note the extraordinary amount of cheering from the audience the first time they sang the refrain? Did you also catch Daltry's final line:

"DON'T YOU GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!" ?

I suspect since next year’s Super Bowl will be in Arlington, I suspect the halftime show will be more Country-oriented.

IMO, the WHO is the
SECOND
GREATEST
ROCK
BAND
EVER.

Rolling Stones being #1. I’m just glad there were no wardrobe malfunctions.

Impossible. Frankie Valli sleeps with the fishes.

“Who played at halftime at the Super Bowl?” “Yes.”

Oh I heard it. I immediately thought of Obama when the crowd cheered.

Was that Keith Moon's son playing drums?

Why can they get an American band...

So you want an American band, coming to your town, to help you party down?

A bit long in the tooth, they were. I thought for sure we’d have a lyrics malfunction as they rocked on. Pro’ly had the whole thing on tape to avoid just that.

What does that say about today’s music when we have to go back to the early 70’s to dredge up ‘The Who’. At least the Rolling Stones had some other hit songs scattered through several decades. Concerts now are so much about the
visual gimmicks, stage theatrics etc... the music suffers from it! IMO.

I think that's Kenny Hand.

It was Zak Starkey, Ringo's boy.

Actually, I think Roger’s voice held up fairly well. He doesn’t have the range he once had, but at least he wasn’t straining as badly as he has in recent performances.

I thought he and Pete both sounded somewhat strained in the beginning, but sounded pretty darn good on "Won't Get Fooled Again." I was glad to hear the Roger could still pull of the scream in that song.

But no one can take the place of Thunderfingers. Maybe John Paul Jones.

I thought it was funny that aging, 60-something geezers would be singing “it’s only teenage wasteland.” That being said, “Baba O’Reilly” was the only song of theirs that I ever liked, so I’m glad they played it. It would have been more to the point, though, to have played “My Generation,” then all of us ex-hippies could have been reminded (not that we really needed it) how “my generation” has messed things up so profoundly. It probably would have been an embarrassment, though.

Townshend looked positively ancient... I expected them to sing "Who am I? Who who? Who who?"

I'm gonna have to give that title to the Davies brothers little quartet.

At least with the Who, you don't have to worry about any boobies popping out. ;-)

But the last few buttons on Townsend shirt were undone- I was yelling at the TV: "Button your shirt, Pete! No one wants to see your fuzzy granpa belly!" LOL

I would have thought he'd have bursitis in that shoulder by now from so much "windmilling", he can still do it!

I would like to see the Little River Band:

Cool Change
Lady
Lonesome Loser
Happy Anniversary
Long Way There
Take it Easy on Me
Help is On The Way
Reminiscing

They still sound as good as ever with Wayne Nelson and Greg Hind on vocals.

Impossible. Frankie Valli sleeps with the fishes.

Funny. In Jersey Boys, there is the line that they were initially introduced by a common neighborhood friend, "little Joey Fishes," aka Joe Pesci.
