There are conservatives, including some of us here on Free Republic, that consider the song "We don't get fooled again!" to have a conservative theme.
The Who saved that for their final performance last night. Did anyone else note the extraordinary amount of cheering from the audience the first time they sang the refrain? Did you also catch Daltry's final line:
"DON'T YOU GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!" ?
I noticed there were no post-keith songs...
I think that's Kenny Hand. I do miss John Entwhistle, though.
At least with the Who, you don't have to worry about any boobies popping out. ;-)
A guy I was at a Super Bowl party with said during the song, “Is this a Republican theme song?”
I agree. I was never a big Who fan, but I didn’t think they were awful. Last night I thought they were awful. I know musical taste is different in everyone, but not all noise is music. It sounded like noise.
I agree, as old as they are I thought they were good, enjoyed seeing them again. And yes there does seem to be a conservative slant to “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. I always liked that song.
my comment last night was OMG they dumped some nursing home residents on the stage at the halftime show of the Superbowl! i am 53 years old, aging rockers creep me the hell out!
My ex thought it was fantastic. I thought ho hum. I noticed it wasn’t very loud, presumably to protect the seniors’ (players and the audience) ears.
I noticed that too.
They showed them during the National Anthem and the crowd roared. Live video feed for Afghanistan.
I thought Karrie Underwood did a great job singing it.
Probably neither. It could have been beer. lol
Think about it.
hehe - The Who slipped in a Who Dat along the way too. I found that amusing. I wish they had voice synched. It was painful.
Same sentiment here. I saw them in the early 90's and it was a good show. Last night was classic Who, although I quipped to the wife that they should be called "Who's Left" these days...;^). As to songwriter Pete Townshend's politics (and the bent to 'Won't Get Fooled Again'), Wikipedia says this about his politics--
In 1998 Townshend was named in a list of the biggest private financial donors to the Labour Party (UK). He refused to let Michael Moore use Won't Get Fooled Again in Fahrenheit 9/11, saying that he watched Bowling for Columbine and wasn't convinced.
That was Zak Starkey, Ringo’s son playing drums. Moon taught him how to play when he was a kid.
My young kids were laughing at the old guys “trying to rock”. My wife asked me how old Daltry was and I guessed he was nearing 60. Much to my amazement, I discovered Daltry is 66!
THE REPLACEMENT DRUMMER FOR KEITH MOON DID HIM JUSTICE!!!!
I strongly suggest that you pull up some old Keith Moon video.
JMHO
I had the exact opposite take: I always liked The Who, but found last night’s performance underwelming.
Best parts were 1. The stage set, and 2. Zack Starkey’s drumming. The rest of it was pretty shakey.
She didn’t hit the last note, tho.
For a bunch of geriatric rockers, they put on a helluva show. The RNC should book them to sing WE WON’T BE FOOLED AGAIN at the 2012 Convention.
