I'm trying to understand what it says about the state of American music and culture that, in every Super Bowl half time show since the wardrobe malfunction, a song less than 30 years old hasn't been sung.
I have plenty of fond memories of the Stones, Bruce, and to a far lesser extent, the Who. But what will the NFL do when all these guys are dead?
I’ve been “over 45” for a while...and grew up on Tommy.
Daltry at his very best was never much of a “singer” (trust me I’m a professional) but mostly he was just a screamer. He actually did better than I expected...I was expecting horrible.
They didn’t even look like they were trying.
It was bad. Very very bad.
It’s all about people you can trust to keep their damn clothes on.
C'mon, now,...we're fair. We listen to both types of music,..Country .....and Western.
My wife said that they looked like a bunch of Nursing Home residents.
"Live at Leeds" - 1970 is the best rock and roll record ever produced followed by "Quadrophenia" - 1973
Who plays Western music nowadays?
I’m over 45 and a Who fan. It was embarrassing to watch.
Isn’t this like 3-4 straight years of “aging rockers”?
Mostly because the new “songs” suck. Who wants to listen to repetitive chords, whiny voices, rap, etc? Contemporary music is awful.
Boy, talk about close minded. Yes, the Who has talent, but most of the under 30 crowd has only heard their music in commericals. Every generation has it's talented musicians and it's hacks. Now, the record companies tend to push a lot of trash in every decade, but the good bands will get noticed. I can think of three current bands that I would have liked to see: The Killers, Deathcab for Cutie or Snow Patrol. Collective Soul would make a great half time band. And yes, I'm over 40.
All lights and no music.
If you do not why...... then you are doomed, should your ten year old mature in some other socio-economic enviro other than today's....let's hope so.....Another topic.
If you are so unaware...than just pull the democratic lever or even better, vote a RINO in. There......how does that feel?
Perhaps you should leave the heavy lifting for someone that can!!
They’ll start putting on 80s rock like Van Halen, Poison, Ratt and Guns N’ Roses.
I think you need to update your image of the band.
It was pathetic. I was at Woodstock. Tonight was just pathetic. We were trying to think of 60’s bands that could do a halftime show and not be pathetic, but they are few and far between. Cream did a great Albert Hall show, but that was 5 years ago. Johnny Winter is decrepit. Bon Scott is dead and Brian Robinson can’t sing worth a darn anymore. Steve Tyler is in rehab again.
Let’s move forward a decade or two. Maybe the Eagle are white bread enough and still good enough to do the job right. Disco and new wave were pathetic before they got old. Hip Hop is just not right for this venue. There are a whole lot of country acts that could do the job admirably. Daughtry could have done a good job if they wanted a rock band. Metallica? Green Day?
It’s time for the NFL to move on.
That melody arrangement was horrid! It sounded like they put it together 5 minutes before halftime. Que the scream tape Roger at least you had that going for you!
Loved the drummer and his cymbals, but man was he holding back!
Agreed, but it was good considering what it was ... jamming in several of their hits in a few minutes. Zak is great, he can mimic Keith Moon perfectly. And he should, considering he gave him lessons & was Zak's godfather.
But Roger & Pete are what they are --60+ year olds, still rocking. I just hope I'm in that good of shape when I'm 64...
I wouldn’t mind Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers or Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
