Pinball Wizard? Seriously?
Posted on 02/07/2010 5:13:14 PM PST by Minn
I'm trying to understand what it says about the state of American music and culture that, in every Super Bowl half time show since the wardrobe malfunction, a song less than 30 years old hasn't been sung.
I have plenty of fond memories of the Stones, Bruce, and to a far lesser extent, the Who. But what will the NFL do when all these guys are dead?

Nah, they are singing those songs so that everyone is subconsciously thinking about the different franchises of “CSI.” I bet CBS is giving them a mint to do that.

Bring back the “New Kids on the Block,” well really, they would be “Middle Aged Men in the Bar” by that time. B-D

Frankly there are several bands they could have chosen from rather than dusting off these octogenarians. The freaking WHO??? WHO...WHO FORGOT TO LOCK THE DAMNED DOOR TO THE REST HOME?

What? They ROCKED. Maybe not as largely as they did during the 1980’s, but still . . . .

The people over 45 will think it’s a good show, under...not so much. They’re getting a good reception. It’s nostalgia...

I have seen them live over the years. They are too old. It is time for them to retire.

They were quite a different band when I saw them 35 years ago, when all the members were still alive and they didn’t have a bunch of nameless guys supporting them.

Sorry. I love The Who and there has never, ever been a better time for the song, "Won't Get Fooled Again."
Frankly, we should have it blasting at every single voting place in this country.

You're missing the point. All these old bands get halftime gigs because they fit the NFL demographic; that is, upper-middle age men. When they all die off, then the halftime performers will change to reflect the new demographic that replaces them.
